Briefly‌‌describe‌‌the‌‌artifact‌‌and‌‌the‌‌context‌‌in‌‌which‌‌it‌‌was‌‌created.‌‌What‌‌was‌‌your‌‌individual‌‌
contribution(s)?‌‌   ‌
The‌‌engaged‌‌learning‌‌project‌‌I‌‌developed‌‌required‌‌students‌‌to‌‌take‌‌on‌‌the‌‌role‌‌of‌‌geneticists.‌‌

Students‌‌used‌‌what‌‌we‌‌learned‌‌in‌‌class‌‌about‌‌genetics‌‌and‌‌cells,‌‌articles‌‌I‌‌provided‌‌them,‌‌and‌‌

interviews‌‌with‌‌geneticists‌‌from‌‌Emory‌‌University‌‌to‌‌explain‌‌how‌‌genetic‌‌cloning‌‌works‌‌and‌‌how‌‌it‌‌is‌‌

connected‌‌to‌‌the‌‌content‌‌we‌‌have‌‌learned‌‌in‌‌class.‌‌Students‌‌have‌‌to‌‌decide‌‌if‌‌they‌‌are‌‌for‌‌or‌‌against‌‌

cloning‌‌and‌‌argue‌‌their‌‌side‌‌through‌‌an‌‌Adobe‌‌Spark‌‌video.‌‌I‌‌take‌‌full‌‌ownership‌‌for‌‌the‌‌

development‌‌of‌‌this‌‌engaged‌‌learning‌‌project‌‌as‌‌I‌‌created,‌‌planned,‌‌and‌‌implemented‌‌it‌‌with‌‌my‌

seventh-grade‌‌students.‌‌Students‌‌worked‌‌on‌‌the‌‌ELP‌‌for‌‌90‌‌minutes‌‌a‌‌week‌‌over‌‌the‌‌course‌‌of‌‌four‌‌

weeks.‌‌The‌‌video‌‌they‌‌created‌‌was‌‌shared‌‌with‌‌classmates,‌‌on‌‌our‌‌school‌‌news‌‌show,‌‌with‌‌the‌‌

Emory‌‌University‌‌geneticists‌‌they‌‌were‌‌paired‌‌with,‌‌and‌‌at‌‌the‌‌family‌‌technology‌‌night.‌  ‌

 ‌
Explain‌‌how‌‌this‌‌artifact‌‌demonstrates‌‌mastery‌‌of‌‌the‌‌standard/element‌‌under‌‌which‌‌it‌‌is‌‌placed.‌‌   ‌
Through‌‌the‌‌development‌‌of‌‌the‌‌engaged‌‌learning‌‌project,‌‌I‌‌demonstrated‌‌my‌‌ability‌‌to‌‌

model‌‌and‌‌facilitate‌‌‌the‌‌use‌‌of‌‌digital‌‌tools‌‌and‌‌resources‌t‌ o‌‌support‌‌diverse‌‌student‌‌needs‌‌‌by‌‌

providing‌‌them‌‌multiple‌‌means‌‌of‌‌representation,‌‌engagement,‌‌and‌‌expression.‌‌Students‌‌had‌‌

opportunities‌‌to‌‌learn‌‌and‌‌interact‌‌with‌‌the‌‌content‌‌through‌‌readings,‌‌discussions,‌‌videos,‌‌and‌‌

interviews‌‌with‌‌the‌‌genetic‌‌scientists.‌‌After‌‌learning‌‌and‌‌engaging‌‌with‌‌the‌‌content,‌‌they‌‌were‌‌

also‌‌given‌‌choice‌‌in‌‌how‌‌they‌‌represented‌‌their‌‌knowledge‌‌through‌‌video.‌‌The‌‌engaged‌‌learning‌‌

project‌‌I‌‌created‌‌shows‌‌my‌‌ability‌‌to‌m
‌ odel‌‌and‌‌facilitate‌‌‌the‌‌use‌‌of‌‌digital‌‌tools‌‌and‌‌resources‌‌to‌‌

enhance‌‌cultural‌‌understanding‌b
‌ ecause‌‌I‌‌encouraged‌‌students‌‌to‌‌develop‌‌their‌‌understanding‌‌

through‌‌research,‌‌determine‌‌their‌‌own‌‌beliefs‌‌based‌‌on‌‌research‌‌and‌‌cultural‌‌“norms,”‌‌and‌‌form‌‌

an‌‌opinion‌‌on‌‌how‌‌genetic‌‌cloning‌‌can‌‌have‌‌a‌‌positive‌‌or‌‌negative‌‌impact.‌‌This‌‌artifact‌‌

global‌‌awareness‌‌‌because‌‌I‌‌matched‌‌students‌‌up‌‌with‌‌a‌‌genetic‌‌scientist‌‌at‌‌Emory‌‌University‌‌to‌‌

increase‌‌their‌‌awareness‌‌of‌‌how‌‌our‌‌content‌‌is‌‌used‌‌in‌‌the‌‌real-world.‌‌   ‌

 ‌
What‌‌did‌‌you‌‌learn‌‌from‌‌completing‌‌this‌‌artifact?‌‌What‌‌would‌‌you‌‌do‌‌differently‌‌to‌‌improve‌‌the‌‌
quality‌‌of‌‌the‌‌artifact‌‌or‌‌the‌‌process‌‌involved‌‌in‌‌creating‌‌the‌‌artifact?‌‌(Not‌‌changing‌‌anything‌‌is‌n
‌ ot‌‌
an‌‌acceptable‌‌response.)‌  ‌
Completing‌‌this‌‌artifact‌‌gave‌‌me‌‌the‌‌opportunity‌‌to‌‌develop‌‌a‌‌learning‌‌experience‌‌for‌‌my‌‌

students‌‌unlike‌‌any‌‌they‌‌had‌‌completed‌‌in‌‌the‌‌past.‌‌Developing‌‌this‌‌project‌‌challenged‌‌me‌‌to‌‌meet‌‌a ‌‌

wide‌‌range‌‌of‌‌student‌‌needs,‌‌while‌‌also‌‌enhancing‌‌cultural‌‌understanding‌‌and‌‌global‌‌awareness‌‌in‌‌

correlation‌‌with‌‌our‌‌content‌‌standards.‌‌To‌‌improve‌‌this‌‌artifact,‌‌I‌‌would‌‌choose‌‌the‌‌groups‌‌students‌‌

worked‌‌in‌‌to‌‌ensure‌‌students‌‌of‌‌varying‌‌needs‌‌and‌‌abilities‌‌were‌‌receiving‌‌the‌‌supports‌‌they‌‌need‌‌to‌‌

be‌‌successful‌‌from‌‌peers‌‌as‌‌well‌‌as‌‌the‌‌teacher.‌‌   ‌

How‌‌did‌‌the‌‌work‌‌that‌‌went‌‌into‌‌creating‌‌this‌‌artifact‌‌impact‌‌school‌‌improvement,‌‌faculty‌‌
development,‌‌or‌‌student‌‌learning?‌‌How‌‌can‌‌this‌‌impact‌‌be‌‌assessed?‌  ‌
The‌‌work‌‌that‌‌went‌‌into‌‌creating‌‌this‌‌artifact‌‌impacts‌‌student‌‌learning‌‌because‌‌it‌‌provides‌‌

students‌‌the‌‌opportunity‌‌to‌‌interact‌‌with‌‌science‌‌content‌‌and‌‌how‌‌it‌‌can‌‌be‌‌seen‌‌in‌‌their‌‌

communities‌‌and‌‌throughout‌‌the‌‌world.‌‌The‌‌engaged‌‌learning‌‌project‌‌allowed‌‌students‌‌to‌‌

participate‌‌in‌‌an‌‌authentic‌‌learning‌‌experience‌‌that‌‌challenged‌‌them‌‌to‌‌use‌‌their‌‌content‌‌knowledge‌‌

and‌‌apply‌‌it.‌‌The‌‌impact‌‌this‌‌project‌‌has‌‌on‌‌student‌‌learning‌‌can‌‌be‌‌assessed‌‌through‌‌the‌‌quality‌‌of‌‌

student‌‌videos‌‌and‌‌the‌‌increased‌‌engagement‌‌and‌‌knowledge‌‌students‌‌have‌‌about‌‌genetics‌‌from‌‌

completing‌‌the‌‌project.‌  ‌
