Thecoachingjournalwasdevelopedthroughoutmycoachingsessionswithacolleagueto
describewhatIdidtopreparemyselfforcoachingsomeoneforthefirsttime,whatwedidthrough
eachsession,andareflectionofmyexperience.Iworkedwiththiscolleaguetoidentifythecurrent
realityinhisclassroomusingthescoringguidefromTheImpactCyclebyJimKnight.Then,Iworked
withhimtodevelopagoalthathewouldliketoreachwithhisstudents.Coachingsession2
happenedafterwebeganworkingfromhomeduringthepandemicsoIgottogetadifferentpicture
ofcoachingsomeonewithoutbeingface-to-facewiththem.Isharedascreencastwithhimthat
wouldallowhimtoworkthroughachecklistthatwouldhelphimreachhisgoalofencouraging
higherstudentengagement.Sinceourschoolsystemchangedthewaywewereteachingfromhome,
mycolleaguedidnotgettoimplementthelessonheoriginallyplannedforhisstudentssoourfinal
sessionfocusedontoolsthatwouldallowhimtokeepanopenlineofcommunicationbetweenhim
andhisstudentsaswetransitionedtoanewlearningplatform.Althoughthiswasanewlearning
opportunityforme,IwasnotpreparedforthechallengesIwouldhavetofaceandovercomeasa
coachduringapandemic.Thisartifactprovidesadeeperdescriptionofmyexperienceandvideosof
coachingsessionsIcompleted.

Completingthisartifactgavemetheopportunitytolearnhowtobeaneffective
instructionaltechnologycoachandprovideteacherswithappropriatetoolsandresourcesto
enhancetheirteachingpractice.Toimprovetheprocessinvolvedincreatingtheartifact,Iwould
haveprovidedmycolleaguewithafollow-uptoouroriginalmeetingalthoughwewere
interruptedbyworkingfromhomeduringthepandemic.Sincewehadtotakeourteachingina
differentdirection,IprovidedafollowupsessionwithascreencastofusingNearpod.Thiswas
notouroriginalplanindevelopinghigherengagement,sointhefuture,Iwouldhaveprovided
himwithasessionthathelpedhimlearntoimprovethesinkorswimactivitywereviewedinour
firstsessioninadditiontotheNearpodresource.

TheworkthatwentintocreatingthisartifactimpactedfacultydevelopmentbecauseI
wasabletoworkone-on-onewithateachertohelphimimprovehisteachingpracticeand
achievehigherstudentengagement.Abonusimpactwewereabletoseewasthatmycolleague
wasabletokeephisstudentsengagedthroughtheuseofNearpodevenwhenwebegan
learningfromhomeduringthepandemic.Thegoalssetandactionsthattookplaceto
incorporatethisnewlearningresourcealsoimpactedstudentlearningbyprovidingthemwith
betteraccesstocontentwhilelearningfromhome.
