Introduction

Navigating LinkedIn and understanding how the platform works has been a very difficult thing
for a lot of people. When I joined LinkedIn in 2018, I did not really understand how it worked.
Navigating the app was a problem for me too. Because of this difficulty, I did not take the
platform seriously at that time even when I knew that the platform had lots of opportunities I
could leverage on. The story is actually the same for most people out there.

The story changed in July 2020 when I finally made a decision to level up. I took LinkedIn
seriously when I was recovering from a bad phase in my life. It was a very difficult time in my
life because I was healing from a bad investment which had almost led me into depression. I
literally lived on LinkedIn—I was always on the app just to keep myself busy and away from the
ugly reality I was recovering from. Sooner than later, I found myself falling in love with the
platform. I knew I needed to because the opportunities on the App were overwhelming.

Right now, I have over 12,000 real followers on LinkedIn. I have built an amazing profile online
which has enabled me to successfully connect with a lot of professionals most of whom I have
always looked up to. I have also made a lot of sales on LinkedIn because I have built a brand for
myself on and off the platform. I have also had some brands reach out to me for collaborations
and publicity; however, I’m very selective and like to work with brands that resonate with my
brand image. I believe my influence is still growing, I still have a lot of value to dispense and I
don’t see any need to rush the process.

I wrote this book as a solution to the difficulty a lot of people face with regard to understanding
and navigating LinkedIn. Before now, I have hosted different batches of students on my
LinkedIn A to Z Course where I have succeeded in helping people and businesses set up and
manage their profiles on LinkedIn. I have also offered free and paid services on LinkedIn
Account Upgrade.

In this book, I have simplified everything you need to know about LinkedIn in a very
comprehensive manner. I have learnt that, above all, it is the value and quality of the content in
this book that matters, so I have made sure to put in my best in providing everything that you
need to reach your LinkedIn goals. At the end of this book, I hope you learn how to build your

Building Great LinkedIn Profiles

LinkedIn is the largest social media platform for professionals around the world. It boasts of over
500 million active users who are professionals across various profession, niche, field or industry.
Why are these facts relevant? It is because having a LinkedIn profile is a necessity for everyone
who looks forward to connecting with professionals in their chosen industry, niche or career or to
get acquainted with trends around their career path or profession and share their experiences. Do
you want to grow in what you do? One of the most important ways of achieving that is by
building a great LinkedIn profile.

Building a great LinkedIn profile is one of the easiest and yet most fulfilling things you can do
for yourself or your business. Yes, I said that. Not wishing to exaggerate, below are the reasons
why building a great LinkedIn profile is what you should be doing right now:

1. Positioning: A great LinkedIn profile properly positions you as an authority in your


profession, niche, or industry. It allows you to share your knowledge, experience and
expertise in a very credible manner that helps you build trust and attract diverse
opportunities to yourself.

2. Employment: A well-written LinkedIn profile also serves as an online Curriculum Vitae


(CV) especially for individuals searching for a job or employment. According to
Pinterest, 100 million job applications are posted on LinkedIn every month. I think you
should read that again. A lot of companies use well-written LinkedIn profiles as the
benchmark for hiring employees. A lot of companies will not consider you serious if you
do not have a well-written LinkedIn profile. I have seen individuals who get job offers
from top firms because of the information they have about themselves on their LinkedIn
profile. Another advantage is the fact that a lot of these Human Resource Personnel and
recruiters who work for these top firms are also on LinkedIn which makes it is easier to
connect with them, if you know the ropes. Don’t worry, I will teach you how to climb
these ropes in this book.

3. Career Development: I have come across scholarship openings and a lot of other career
development opportunities on LinkedIn. LinkedIn enables you to study what other
professionals have done or are doing so that you can learn from them and build your own
career. In other words, you have access to career templates if you are on LinkedIn. For
instance, I learnt about the Harvard Business School Online just by scrolling through
someone’s profile on LinkedIn. In addition, if you’re looking for a mentor or someone to
guide you career-wise, it is easier to find one if you are on LinkedIn. It can be a free or
paid mentorship depending on who you meet.

4. Business and Sales: Doing business on LinkedIn is easier especially when you have built
a large followership for yourself and you have properly positioned yourself to be very
credible. People love to do business with the best brands and LinkedIn offers you the
opportunity to properly position yourself as the best; as long as you are doing a genuine
business that help people solve one problem or the other. I also want to draw your
attention to the fact that there are not enough people selling on LinkedIn yet even when
statistics from Inside View shows that LinkedIn generates more leads for B2B companies
than Facebook, twitter or blogging individually and contributes to 80% of B2B leads
coming from social media and that 1 in 3 B2B marketers say the platform generates
revenue for them. What are you waiting for?

Tip: B2B stands for business to business. It involves sales you make to other businesses
rather than to individual consumers.

5. Networking Opportunities: If you are put in the same room with the best professionals
in the world, what will you do? I mentioned earlier that LinkedIn is the largest social
media platform for professionals around the world and like they will always say, “Your
network determines your net worth”. LinkedIn offers you the opportunity to network with
the best professionals out there and with a great profile on the platform no one can tell
how far you can go in building relationships with the best individuals in and outside your
profession.

6. Online Education: I have acquired online certificates courtesy of LinkedIn. I had not
been privileged to know that I could learn online and earn certificates. One of the things
LinkedIn did for me was to open my eyes to lots of learning opportunities out there.
Earlier, I spoke about Harvard Business School Online. It’s an online business school
courtesy of the renowned Harvard Business School. You can leverage on these online
learning opportunities and more provided by some online educational platforms like
LinkedIn Learning, Coursera, Udemy and so on.

The reasons why you need to build great LinkedIn profiles is inexhaustible. I can continue
mentioning more reasons but I believe you already get the point—LinkedIn is waiting for you to
tap from its resources by building your profiles and shooting to the moon.

If you’re looking to expand your social network to increase your reach and visibility, develop
your personal brand, build your business and leverage on professional opportunities, then
building a great LinkedIn profile is vital to you.

A well written LinkedIn profile affords you the opportunity to create online professional brands
which can open doors that you may not have been aware of. LinkedIn gives you the platform to
