Section D – Developing transferable skills

The type of activities that you should include in your plan in order to develop skills in areas
other than health and safety are listed below. The list is not exhaustive and is for guidance
only.

Undertake a management role in an organisation, including:


o carrying out general work-based management projects and activities
o managing budgets and financial resources
o making bids and securing financial resources for organisational plans
o managing the performance of teams and individuals
o identifying learning and development needs

Help others by:


o mentoring or coaching other health and safety professionals
o contributing to the development of learning programmes in an organisation
o designing learning programmes
o managing the contribution of other people to the learning process

Undertake courses in management and other skills, such as:


o quality management
o auditing
o information technology
o negotiation

Undertake other activities, such as:


o involvement in your local community
o voluntary work using key skills
o research
