1. What are EA components and how do they relate to a framework?

EA components are the working elements of the framework at each level. They are the
building blocks that create discrete parts of the overall Information technology operational
capability. It builds the framework, framework is an overall structure for modeling the
enterprise’s business and technology operating environment.

2. What are EA artifacts and how do they relate to EA components?

EA artifacts are the documents constituting enterprise architecture, they provide

description of an organization from different perspectives vital for the various actors involved in
strategic decision making and implementation of information system. There are 3 levels of EA
artifacts these are; high-level EA artifacts, mid-level EA artifacts and low-level EA artifacts. Those
are composed of different types of documentation from text documents and diagrams to
applications. When these documentations are organized by the taxonomy of the EA framework
these will generate what we called EA components in new and more useful views of functioning.

3. What parts of an enterprise’s Strategic Plan could be viewed as EA components?

The strategic plan of an Enterprise has artifacts like the topology, networking,
documentation and stakeholder management in the plan. Some of these like the scheduling of
the plan and stakeholder mobilization can also be EA components that play a crucial role in
Enterprise planning and management of its different aspects.

4. Why can an enterprise’s business services, information flows, applications, and networks be
viewed as EA components?

Because ‘Business Services’ is classified as one of EA components at the Products &

Services level and this is where the enterprise’s key business and support are processed and
also an IT capital planning portfolio that provides the case of business documentation on the
investment of the operational and financial thresholds’ in IT.

5. Why are national and international standards important to EA components?

Because these standards will enhance the integration of EA components as well as
better supporting the shift out components when required.

6. Which elements of a security and privacy program can be viewed as EA components?

Security Solutions, elements of a security and privacy program can be viewed as EA

components of security solutions. The reason is that security solutions provides security high
level view throughout the enterprise. This is the solution for protection of IT resources active in
business and technology environment.

7. List several hypothetical EA components at each level of the Framework for a large automobile
manufacturing company.

a. Compare and contrast the use of the term “component” in the context of how it is used
in this chapter with the use of the term in the software and application development
industry.
In Application development industry components are the blocks of processes for
building while component in this chapter is an entities that contains processes that are
crucial for the planning and implementing.
