Federal Pell Grant

The Federal Pell Grant program provides need-based grants to low-income undergraduates who have not earned a bachelor’s or professional
degree, to promote access to postsecondary education. The amount of the Pell Grant a student can receive is determined by filing the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov.

The amount of the Pell Grant that a student is eligible to receive is dependent on several factors, which include: the expected family
contribution (EFC) from the FAFSA, the student’s enrollment status (full-time, ¾-time, ½-time, less than ½ -time), and whether the student
attends for a full academic year or less. Students who have questions regarding the amount of their Pell Grant eligibility should contact the
Office of Financial Aid at (734) 384-4135.

USING THE CHART

To use this chart, you need to know your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and your enrollment status for the semester.

1. Locate your EFC on your award letter that you received in the mail from our office.
2. On the Pell Grant Award Schedule above, look at the left-hand column labeled “EFC” and find the range of numbers containing your
particular EFC.
3. Look at the columns to the right labeled with the different enrollment statuses. The appropriate Pell Grant award amounts for every
EFC are printed for each enrollment status. Find the column for your enrollment status and move across the same row as your EFC
until you find the award amount for your particular enrollment status.

Example: If your EFC is 0 and you are enrolled full-time for the Fall semester, the amount of your Pell Grant for the Fall semester is $2908.

EFC Full-time (12 ¾-time (9-11 ½-time (6-8 Less than ½-

or greater credit hours) credit hours) time: (5 or
credit hours) less credit
hours)
0 $2908 $2181 $1454 $ 727

4. The above amounts are based on the Fall and Winter semesters only. Spring/Summer amounts may vary. Please contact the Office
of Financial Aid at (734)-384-4135 for additional information regarding Spring/Summer Pell Grant awards.
