As you get comfortable with the right lighting and
the smell of freshly brewed SPICE COFFEE, let’s get
familiar with the rules:

THE RULES
❖ Pick the characters you would like to assume.
• For those reading DUNE for the first time, we
suggest Paul or Jessica, but you can just pick a
character at random - we don’t like to spoil.
• For those familiar with DUNE , chose a character
you want to understand better.
• You could even split up the characters in your
book club and discuss their journal entries
later, but make sure the journal is safe to share.
Agree beforehand on topics/language to avoid.
❖ Leave your earthen self behind, assume your
NOVEL S ELF from the book.
❖ Start reading and don’t forget to journal.
❖ Your journal records the thoughts and feelings of
your NOVEL SELF.
❖ There are guiding prompts on the individual
bookmarks, but you should also think about
these general prompts frequently:
• How do I see myself - your NOVEL SELF
• Why did I make this particular choice
• Was this my free choice or was my hand forced
❖ Disengage and breath if you feel uncomfortable.
❖ And finally, care for yourself and enjoy reading!
