Traditional Chinese Medicine

To understand the TCM, first we need to know a bit more about Qi.

The origins of the word Qi 氣 ( chee or chi ) comes from the ancients, and is made up of two
words. The top part 气 of the symbol means “ vapor “, the lower part means “ rice “. It is
believed that is steam from a rice cooking pot, but is that is too literal. Rice was vital to the
source of life and the vapor is the breath of Qi, which becomes the translation of Qi- “ Vital
Breath". The energy of the seen Universe and the unseen Universe, whether it is alive,
inanimate, spiritual, supernatural or dead is Qi. Humans are Qi and when we move, the
energy is Qi. Life emanates from Qi and originates from Yin Yang. The beginning of life is Qi.
The birth of Qi becomes the direct result of the interaction between Yin and Yang, a
symbiotic nature that empowers the Universe.
Yin grows from Yang. Yang grows from Yin. They are Qi and the nature of this is TAO.
TAO is the energies ever present around us, it touches everything, it is everything, from the
passage of times to the spirit you feel in your body.

We receive our energy from 2 sources:

The air we breathe.

The food we eat.

Yin Yang

There are 2 supreme primal energies of the universal force- this is TAO in movement

Yin is internal and drawing force.

Yang is external and pushing force.

Yin cannot exist without Yang.

Yang cannot exist without Yin.

When Qi is condensed, it gives rise to matter. Yin ( birth ) is the material basis for Yang.
When Qi is dispersed, it gives rise to energy.

Yin cools, the keeper of balance, nourishes the Universe and provides rest or Jing.
Yang warms, all transformations of energy relies on Yang. It protects, moves and holds Yin
in its proper place, or Dong.
Yin Yang is in continuous transformation, while in motion they separate and in stillness the
fuse. Everything is embedded in Yin and embraces Yang.
Yin Yang in Human Body

The head being Yang, represents spirit.

The body represents Yin.

The left side of the body is Yang.

The right side of the body is Yin.

In the body, Yang is the activity or ability of movement we exhibit, Yin is the process that
we change energy into Yang, such as food, water and air.

Yang- energy Yin- matter

It has been said in ancient text, that we live on the Yin ( matter ) side of the Universe, and
when we die, we go to the Yang ( energy ) side of the Universe.

“The Qi of the body flows in accordance with the changes in Heaven and Earth. “

The Five Elements represent form and manifestation of Qi in character.

The use of this 5 elements Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water to alter energies open new
realities for people and displaces negative influences by changing the shift and vibration of
these energies. These energies are representation phases and natural movements of Qi.

Why 5? Five cardinal directions S, N, E, W and Centre

South contains Fire

North contains Water

East contains Wood

West contains Metal

Centre being TAO or Earth

These are elements are all based on atmospheric conditions of Qi. While we are all
combinations of these elemental energies, we tend to have characteristics of one or two
dominant above the others.

This is the Qi we are born with, given by the heaven and the combination of ancestral Qi.

In essence, our energy that we carry around us is energy that has been given to us by our
parents, our past lives, heaven and has been here since the creation.
In humans we find 5 senses: Hearing, Taste, Touch, Sight, Smell and there are 5 base
sentiments or emotions: Grief, Worry, Fear, Anger, Joy.

Each element has qualities of Yin Yang. The 5 elements are extremely important and is an
essential expression of who we are. In order for us to improve our health and emotions, we
must understand more about ourselves. Everyone is affected by certain types of energies
that are presented and present at the time of our birth. Not all of us are created equal, we
each have different imprints of energy.

Everyone has an obvious prevailing Qi that is represented by your year of birth and has a
direct relation to the Lou Pan ( Chinese Compass ). Which is referred to as your “ Gua" or
Trigram and is your external elemental influence, nature or imprint, and everyone born in
the same year has the same influence. But we are not all the same, we have an internal
influence given by heaven that affects and interacts with the “Gua" and this is your “ Ba Zi
Ming Pan" or Daymaster element which is the element that controls and affects the person
internally on a daily basis.

Your “Gua" is your external root in the Universe

Your Daymaster is your internal root in the Universe

Each of these elements represents a particular aspect of a person and is associated with
emotions and parts of the body.

Emotions = disharmony of Yin Yang and Qi in the body, creating a root of illness and
disease growth

The theory involved on the division into 2 houses is that, those born of a particular “Gua"
carry certain base energies and are comfortable with certain directions.

In aligning yourself with your natural direction you can provide yourself with added
prosperity and good health.

People of the same group and same house can get along better. People of opposite houses
tend to bicker and can prove to be difficult.

Our lovely internet provided us with sites where we can calculate our “Gua" and our “Ba Zi
Ming Pan" or Daymaster , so here are some of them:
