1. The patient was initially believed to have Jacob-Creutzfeldt disease. Why?

Ans: Patient chief of complaints states that the patient is suffering from a rapid progressive dementia
who also initially experience problems with muscular coordination; personality changes, including
impaired memory, judgment, and thinking, and impaired vision.

2. What evidence is available that helps rule out a central nervous system infection as the cause
of this patient’s disability?

Ans: CT scan and biopsy

3. Why was serum TSH checked?

Ans: TSH levels are necessary to rule out any possible thyroid diseases as it usually mimics other
psychiatric disorder including Alzheimer’s disease.

4. Why was serum vitamin B12 checked?

Ans: Vitamin B-12 is an important vitamin for many bodily functions, such as brain health, blood
cell production, and proper nerve functioning. therefore it signifies the health status of the brain.

5. Why was the patient tested for HIV?

Ans: HIV can cause neurological symptoms such as confusion, forgetfulness, depression, anxiety
