2 Pharmacy services are the skills offered or delivered to improve the quality, safety and
efficiency of healthcare service delivery n all Healthcare Establishments as well as to provide high-quality and
standard care tothe patients and community. Pharmacists being the back bone of patient care, in hospitals play
Vital role in optimization of healthcare services by providing pharmacy services as according to Section 2(xxv) of
the DRAP Act 2012 which are reproduced as:
“Pharmacy Services” means services rendered by pharmacist in
pharmaceutical care, selection, posology, counseling, dispensing,
use, administration, prescription ‘monitoring,
Pharmacoepidemiology, therapeutic goods information and poison
control, pharmacovigilance, pharmacoeconomics, storage, sales,
procurement, forecasting, supply chain management, drug
utilization evaluation, drug utilization review, formulary based drug
utilization and managing therapeutic goods at all levels including
pharmacy, clinic, medical store, hospital or medical institution”
A Below mentioned Pharmacy Services shall be implemented in true letter and spirit across all the
Hospitals under Primary & Secondary Healthcare Department:
Pharmacy Services rendered by Pharmacists:
4, Pharmacy Main medicine store:

Manager (Pharmacy Services) will be the Incharge of Pharmacy/Main Medicine Store.
Pharmacist will ensure maintenance of inventory as per hospital formulary and will update
the authority regarding stock position as and when required
1.3. Pharmacist! Pharmacy Technician shall be available round the clock for dispensation of
therapeutic goods
14, Allthe therapeutic goods must be kept on racks and shelves, Medicines shal be stored off
the floor, suitably spaced to permit ventilation, cleaning and inspection. Pallets being used
to stack the cartons: atleast 10 cm (4 inches) off the floor; at least 30cm (1 foo!) away from
the walls and other stacks; and not more than 2.5m (B feet) high as stated in Schedule ‘H”
of Punjab Drugs Rules 2007.
