1962 ( ACT NO. 18 OF 1962)
[As passed by the Uttar Pradesh Legislature, assented to by the President on
November 24,1962]

To provide for the improvement and clearance of slum


areas, rehabilitation of their residents and protection
from eviction of tenants in such areas.

DECLARATION OF SLUM AREAS

(1) Due to dilapidation, overcrowding, faulty arrangement and design of such


buildings, narrowness or faulty arrangement of streets, lack of ventilation, light or
sanitation facilities, or any combination of these factors, detrimental to safety,
health or morals of the inhabitants in that area in any respect unfit for human
habitation.

(2) In determining whether a building is unfit for human habitation, due to :


• (a) Extent of necessary repair;
• (b) stability;
• (c) extent of dampness;
• (d) availability of natural light and air;
• (e) water supply;
• (f) arrangements for privies, drainage and sanitation;
• (g) facilities for storage, preparation and cooking of food and for the disposal of
waste matter and water;
