NICOLAS HABIB CLASS NOTES – 7/14/2021

Freewrite

Dear Reader,
In regard to my Literature Review, I think that it being a rough draft, there isn’t much
that I think that is “good” if I’m honest. BUT that’s okay because it’s my rough draft. I’m happy
that I got my ideas down on the paper if I’m being honest. I think one main thing I didn’t do is
add quotes from the research that would reinforce my argument. So, I think I want to go back
and see the ideas that I was trying to present, and then go to my sources and cite them. The
feedback I’m looking for in particular is constructive criticism on what would help my paper,
and then also if there is something good, I’d like to know so that I can continue doing the
“good” more deliberately…if that makes sense. I still think I’m not quite set on a specific
problem, but I feel extremely close, and I do think once I get it, everything should be smooth
sailing. Well, at least I hope.

Respectfully,
Nicolas Habib

REVISED DRAFT

Researchers in this topic have discovered a variety of things that all impact my research.
For example, Ott and Dickinson both break down what makes a good tweet and that helps
establish a standard that I can use while searching for tweets. McGregor and Molyneux
conducted the experiment of finding out if journalists consider tweets more or less newsworthy
than actual articles. These are just some examples of research that has been conducted relating
to my research topic but are vital in my research as the more I understand, the more I can begin
to analyze my primary research through a more educated set of lenses.
Methods can range from actual surveys to culminating papers to break down rhetoric.
The subject of social media is huge, and I’ve encountered a lot of these varying methods, which
also gives me more options to what to use for my research. A majority of my sources revolve
around the writings of others speaking directly of the rhetoric in Twitter, and also rhetoric itself.
These varying methods gives what I feel a larger toolbox that I can use when I construct my
argument for my research question; How does Fox present their news on Twitter compared to
how they present news using their published articles?
Trying to find what hasn’t been researched in this topic is rather difficult since the
impact of social media is so large, naturally people feel inclined to learn more about it.
Something that I haven’t found yet is the direct comparison between Twitter news versus other
agencies. Of course, there are non-scholarly articles that speak on this subject, but not with the
focus on rhetoric and composition. Again, that’s just what I haven’t seen but I haven’t
necessarily stopped looking at articles for my research question in the first place.
