Aer getting marks "A" and “B™ side by side, measure back from the neck ofthe splice 6 inches towards the bay ofthe ope and mao a mask 4. Try removing all the slack from therope and eye, then bunch the slack up within the neck ofthe splice and the si mark 5. Before burying the cover tail taper approximately 8 o 10 inches of cover, and tape tightly. 6. Attach the eover tail to a very small id, and procead to bury the cover tal. Enterat the neck ofthe spice and exit a the six- inch mark. , Note: Make sure nt to snag any ofthe core fibers while burying the cover til 7. Afierpulling the fd clear from the six-inch mark, move fd and proceed to work the ope untilthe entire covert is buried Note: The cover tail should be buried so that mark “B” is buried atleast one inch further then the neck ofthe splice 8. (Ifa thimble is to be wsed form the rpe around it with “A” as tne side) Make a mark directly across from "A", this is Mark" Measure back 1 1/2 fll fd lengths from “B” ty Mark “C", Tia slipknot some 8 to 10 fds further up the rope. ‘Step 2) Extract core from rope at Mark “B" as shown, (se illustration), Tightly tape the end of the core. Slide cover down the core as far as possible tward the knot. Now smooth the cover from the knot toward the end of the core. Mark core wher it exits fom cover (Mark "I", Slide cover back down cere, measure I short fd length from Mark “1” and make Mark "2". Place a e wrap of tape around core ‘Step 3) Taper the end ofthe core tail and attach fid as shown Slit and remove the fabric tape covering the core from Mark "2" to the end ofthe fid, exposing the parallel core yarws. Measure and mark the core fives f short fd length from the end, Fan the core fibers and cut ata 45° angle from the mark tothe botom end. Step 5) From Mark “A” on cover, count S Pies toward end of cover til, Unbaid cover from end back to this points and cut ata 45° angle, - Step 6) Carefully pull core back out of cover at Mark “A” vt € Mark "2" on core (where pe was applied in Step 2) lines up with Mark “A. This isthe erosiover point, Tightly tape the tapered end ‘of the cover tothe cor stating from Mark “A” and working toward the end ofthe cover. Use masking tape and overlay each wrap of tape a lite as possible, After taping, roll he taped section between your hands to smooth the taped area, Hold rope at Mark "A" and smooth cover toward the kno, Tapered core tail will disappear ito rope ‘Step 7) Attach the knot 10 secure anchor point (a 200d deal of tension may be required w bury the splice). Bury the exposed section ‘of the splice up tothe eressover point by milking the eaver back up the rope trom the kor. Keep the exposed core under tersion while milking th cover, Ifthe rope gets to tight when the crossover is ‘being buried, flex and/orbammer the rassover to loosen the fiber. Continue the process until crossover is tried up to Mask “A” and the cover is snug around the eye. To assist in the final bury insert a large fd e rod through the eye and givea sharp tug. Mark core where it exits frm cover (Mark “I. Slide cover back down cor, measure one short Fd length from Mark 1 and make Mark "2": Place a single wrap of tape stound core at Mark “2”.
