Summary

The colorectal tumor is the 2nd leading cause of cancer death in Hungary.

The development of imaging techniques results in more precise diagnostics for cancer, and more
accurate determination of cancer’s stage and growth. There are many possibilities to choose the right
diagnostic method from and to set the schedule of the examinations and the follow-up of the disease.
The professional treatment of the CRC is a multidisciplinary task. In the case of a CRC with higher stage
the only treatment with high success rate is surgical removal of the tumor. In the case of 80% of the
patients diagnosed with CRC, metastasis is already developed. The most common haematogen
metastasis site of CRC is the liver. Only 10-25% of the patients with metastasis can undergo surgical
therapy. In most cases, the distant metastasis leads to the death of the patient diagnosed with CRC.

Goal: Investigation of the relation of CRC and sedentary lifestyle. In the experiment examining the effect
of exercise, the cancer growth rate was significantly increased in tumor-control mice as compared to
tumor-exercise group. The average survival rate increased by at least 5% in the tumor-exercise group as
well as the vitality and the quality of life of these mice were also significantly better.

Goal: Comparison of the analyzed data from patients with the published literature. Patients and
methods: 69 patients with CRC treated in the II. Department of Internal Medicine, Semmelweis
University. The patients were sorted by gender, age, localization of the tumor, possible sites of
metastasis, and imaging techniques.

Results: 55.8% of the patients were man, 44.2% were woman (ratio 1.3:1). The age of the patients
ranged from 24 to 97 years, and 65% of them were between 61 and 80 years old. The tumor localized in
the rectum in 29.7% of the patients… (Ird at mert magyarul sem ertelmes a tobbi resze a mondatnak).
Metastasis was observed in one third of the patients, mostly (ie. 36%) in the liver. To follow up the
progression of the tumor growth, the chest X-ray was used as the most often used imaging technique
followed by the ultrasound examination and the CT.

The progression of the CRC allows the application of screening examinations. 88-94% of the CRC is
sporadic and the hereditary form is only 5-10% of the all cases. The incidence could be significantly
decreased by training, communication and screening tests.
