Unit Title Critical Response to Music

Standard(s) Student will listen to, describe, analyze and evaluate music and music
performances.
Objective(s) TSWBAT listen and respond to basic elements of music representing
diverse genres and cultures.
Instructional Design
Include what the teacher will be doing AND what the students will be doing Pacing
in each segment of the instructional design.
Hook TTW turn off the lights in the room, open a container with 5 min
dry ice and shine a colored light on him/her. TTW play and
sing a blues using a guitar. TTW encourage students to clap
and sing along. Suddenly TTW stop playing and proceed to
play a quiet classical guitar song. TTW will stop playing
after 30 seconds or so, turn on the lights and cover the dry
ice container and ask students to reflect on the differences
between the two genres, and how the extra musical (dry ice,
lights) affected their perception of the performance.
