Typhoid vaccine is a suspension of kiilea
Salmonella typh, containing not less'than, 1,000
million bacteria of S. T.\IPhi Ty-2 strain and 500
mililon each of Salmonella typhi A & B strains
per human dose of 1 mi. Preservedby 0 .5% Phenol.
The strain used has the full complement of
o H. and VI antigens The organisms are killed
br heating at 56°C for one hour and by addition
o PhenoI1~o.
The typhoid vaccine is justified under the
follOWing conditions
(a) For protection of persons in direct
contact with patients and carriers.
(b) For persons exposed by reason of
therr occupation (medical and Para-
medical persons etc.).
(e) In Institutions where the appropriate
hygenlc condition can not be met.
(d) In areasof high endemic incidence.
(e) For personstravelling to endemic areas.
(f) In case of Impending danger of epidemic
and in emergencies such as flood or
earthquake etc.
Contraindication of Vlccinatio ...
Antityphoid vaccination IS contraindicated in
the case of cardivascular, pulmonary, kidney and
liver diseases, neurologic disorders, allergic condi-
nons, reconvalescents, Pyrexia and Pregnancy.
Injections should be given under medical super-
vis ron
Dose: The initial dose is 0.5 ml. and the 2nd
dose should be of 1.0 mi. The route' of
Injection IS preferably subscuItaneously
Vaccmatron may be followed by a local
reaction lasting for 1 to 2 days \Swelling
and pain at the injection site), and
occasionally by a general reaction
(Headache and fever). °
Storage The product should be stored at 4-8 C
In' refrigeration till its use. Should not
be exposed to heat & light and should
not freeze.
Exp"y When stored in the recommended
conditions, Typhoid vaccine is intended
to be used not later than 18 mont hs
from the date of preparation.
Packing The product ISavailable in 10 mls. vials.
