Vocabulary and language development

 Introduce new concepts via essential vocabulary.


 Connect student accessible synonyms or concepts to this essential vocabulary.
 Support student to distinguish word meanings, and their uses for subject for subject specific task
and prerequisite language skills.

Academic language:

 Engage beginning level students in using basic social and school vocabulary, phrases, and
sentences structure.
 As student progress, continue to contextualize instruction of more complex language form and
uses: subject specific academic vocabulary, grammatical forms, and sentences structures used in
listening, speaking, and writing.
 Respectfully, distinguish difference between primary language use and standard academic
English.
