ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION

One of the objectives for this experiment is to determine the effect of different loads on
positive displacement gear pump. Secondly, the experiment conducted to investigate the
relationship between the flow rates of gear pump with the different speeds of gear pump. The next
objective of the experiment is to identify more about the characteristic of gear pump.

PROCEDURE

Before starting the experiment

1. The apparatus and equipment prepared for the experiment such as loads, stopwatch and
more.
2. The gear of pump locked before the power supply switched on.
3. The power supply and dynamo switched on and the experiment started to acieve first and
second objectives.

Constant speed

1. The gear pump’s speed set up at 15 rev/s as a constant.

2. This experiment started with no load hang at the side of dynamo that act as controlling
variable.
3. The work done by the pump reading taken at the pump’s work done display scale and
recorded.
4. Then, 5 litres of water collected beside the time taken to collect 5 litres of water recorded by
using a stopwatch.
5. This experiment repeated by manipulating its load by hanging up 500, 1000, 1500, 2000 and
2500 g at the side of dynamo.
6. The load that hang up must below 3000 g and 2500 g for the maximum value as it will
exceed the limit of pump’s work scale.
7. As a precaution the reading taken for each load was 2 times to determine its average value
and avoid any errors.

Constant pump’s work

1. This experiment started by hanging up 500 g load at the side of dynamo as a constant.
2. The speed of gear pump controlled at the pump speed controller and 5 rev/s set up for the
first gear pump’s speed.
3. Similar as before, 5 litre of water collected and the time taken to collect the water recorded.
4. The experiment repeated by changing its speed for 10, 15, 20 and 25 rev/s.
5. The reading taken for each speed also 2 times as a precaution steo to determine its average
value and avoid any errors.
