These are times when
majority of the people are
thinking about leaving
Pakistan and many of them
have actually migrated and
have settled in other
countries. But Pakistan is
not as bad a country it is
portrayed to be. I still love
Pakistan and there are
hundreds of reasons why I
love it.
Pakistan is a result of the
sacrifices of millions of
Muslims and the efforts of
Muhammad Ali Jinnah to
get a separate homeland for
the Muslims of the
subcontinent. How can I
forget the sacrifices my
ancestors gave to provide
me with an independent
homeland? How I am not
supposed to love a country
which my ancestors died
fighting for! I love Pakistan
because of the plain reason
that it has allowed me to
practice my religion freely.

culture and religion as I am
which gives me a sense of
belonging and affection for

FLAG
The National flag of Pakistan
was designed by the founder
of Pakistan Mr. Mohammed
Ali Jinnah. The flag itself is
dark green in color with a
white bar, a white crescent in
the center and a five pointed
star. Each color and symbol
used in the flag has its own
specific importance. The
white bar and the dark green
field are symbols for
minorities and Muslim
majorities. The crescent on
the flag is representative of
progress and the five rayed
star signifies light and
knowledge.
However there is also a

An Overview
The Pakistan Movement is
similar to the spirit of Islam.
The War of Independence in
1857 was an announced
declaration of the Muslim
strength of revolution against
the oppressing power of the
British government and its
stooges present in the Sub
continent. Frustration, dearth
of direction and planning
lowered the rank of Muslims
after the failure of this war. It
was after this war that leaders
such as Sir Syed Ahmad
Khan emerged who became a
guiding light for Muslims in
India. Muslims were in
distress and he said that

federal ministers and other
dignitaries entitled to the

the speakers of the provincial
assemblies, the diplomatic
representatives of Pakistan in
foreign countries and the
commissioners of divisions,
deputy commissioners and
political agents.

passed the Quaid became a
symbol for Muslim
Nationalism in Human form.
He was launched as the Quaid
even before the initiation of
the Pakistan
There are also specific
people who are entitled to fly
the national flag on their
motor vehicles, vessels and
air planes at times when the
dignitaries are seated inside.
These dignitaries include the
President of Pakistan, the
Prime Minister of Pakistan,
the Chairman of the Senate of
Pakistan, the speaker of the
national Assembly of
Pakistan, the Chief Justice of
Pakistan, the Provincial
Governors, and the chief
Ministers of the provinces
and the Chief justice of the
high courts. In fact the
president and the Prime
minister may fly two flags,
which include his personal
flag along with the National
flag. Hence it could be
concluded that the flag of
Pakistan has a lot of
significance and authority, it
is representative of many
national and patriotic aspects
of the country.
Movement in March, 1940.
Due to the continued
stubbornness of the Indian
national congress, it was in
1940 that the league formed
the resolution on the 23rd
march.
It was designed on the
principal that areas in which
the Muslims would be in
Majority would be grouped
together to create an
independent state. After the
difficult struggle by the
Muslims, the British
Parliament was forced to
agree to the Indian
Independence Act in 1947,
leading to the creation of
Pakistan on 14th August in
1947. It was on this historic
day that Quaid-e-Azam
addressed the first session of
the Pakistan’s Constituent
Assembly ad appreciated the
services and sacrifices of all
Muslims in the Sub continent
in the creation of Pakistan.

Established over 200 years
ago both Cambridge and
Oxford are amongst the top
two universities in Britain and
are both held in high esteem
worldwide. The education in
these universities is
unparalleled with the likes of
Stephen Hawking and Isaac
Newton having received an
education from here. Whilst
the excellence of these
universities is undeniable,
being factory-like in churning
out world leaders they have,
however, been brought under
fire, for their lack of social
diversity and giving people
who are part of an ethnic
minority a place. Admitting
mainly rich, white students,
poorer students or students of
other ethnic backgrounds
although equally as gifted can
be left out forcing them to then
apply for universities of lower
esteem. However, 2019is a
year of change and
advancement and the smart
kids better get their act
together if they hope to keep
up with the rest of the class.
Universities should be equal in
their distribution of places to
under privileged kids which is
the very reason why
Cambridge has a whole
“Equality and Diversity
“section on its website and
Oxford has a whole unit
dedicated to the campaign.
However, easier said than
done apparently as reports
published by the Good
University Times show both
Cambridge and Oxford to be
amongst the worst alongside
St Andrews -another
prestigious university- when it
comes to social diversity, with
only 11% of undergraduates
coming from deprived
backgrounds compared to the
22% that sent in an application
for the opportunity to study
there.
Deprived students are proven
to perform
roughly 30-40% less well than
affluent ones. This is due to the
lack of opportunity available
to these children as from a
young age they were never
able to afford all of the grand
aspects ofeducation such as
private tutoring, spelling
classes, extra-curricular clubs
like music and sports clubs
which meant they did not gain
lifelong skills such as
communication and problem
solving as quickly in
comparison to their rich
counterparts. 10-25% of the
tutors hired in some London
firms are made up of students
purely
f r o m
wealthy
familieswi
th the rest
b e i n g
made up of
students
from the
average
income
f a m i l y.
Despite all
this, these
aspiring,
gifted,
deprived
students
put in the
extra graft
to get the
required
grades and then are
prejudiced against
simply because their
brilliance doesn’t match their
bank balance. Disgraceful. If
these students were given the
chance at these high-end
universities who knows what
they could become
Some however argue that
Cambridge and Oxford aren’t
at fault here and the lack of
applications sent to the
universities is the reason why
rates of acceptance are low for
people of deprived
backgrounds. However, it
should be the responsibility of
Oxbrid
ge -Oxford and Cambridge- to
raise the awareness and let
these low-income families
know that people from all
backgrounds have a chance to
make it here. As if knowing the
way deprived students are
treated wasn’t enough, other
ethnic minorities are treated in
similar regard.A report from
the Good University Times
also showed that the
likelihood of white British
applicant being accepted was
double that of a black
applicant and Universities
minister, Sam Gyimah, who is
also black and educated from
Bint Aam J.
oxford,called the whole thing
staggering. To address this, the
famous rapper/musician
Stormzy created a scholarship
program for the sole reason
that more black students get a
chance at these universities
when they wouldn’t have
otherwise. Don’t get me
wrong, it’s a great initiative,
but more than anything it’s a
wakeup call. If the only reason
you have hope of getting into
universi ties, like
Oxf ord

and Cambridge, is because
you are pitied, then what does
that have to say about the way
things stand? and by making a
scholarship solely for black
students what becomes of
other ethnic minority students
who dream of the same
opportunity? Charity
scholarships can only go so
far. Change must come from
within the university doors.
Numerous reports highlight
other inequalities faced by
people of colour further with
one report published by
ethnicity facts and figures
saying that black Caribbean
pupils

expelled at
a rate of

percent in

n to white
pupils who
w e r e
expelled at
a rate of
0 . 1 the perfect Oxbridge student

This same
report also
states that

These figures are some of the
few published across
numerous articles and news
boards that emphasis the
extent of inequality in today’s
society. Instead of being an
ambassador for change
Cambridge and other
universities alike are jumping
onto the racism bandwagon so
to speak and are ignorant
towards the importance of this
issue contributing to the
advancement of our society as
a whole.
It can
be argued that change is
happening. A photo uploaded
to Facebook went viral as it
showed 14 black students
standing outside a Cambridge
college. This photograph
received overwhelming
support and when interviewed
the people within the
photograph talked about how
they aim to be role models for
black students alike who don’t
see themselves fitting into the
stereotypical Oxbridge
student type. However, a BBC
news article reported what
some pupils went on to do
after they received their A
level results and one girl by the
name of Daniella Adeluwoye
couldn’t believe her luck when
she had been accepted as she
said “Ididn’t know black
people went to Cambridge”.
Stereotypes can be based on
some form of truth and they
tend not to come from
nowhere. Both Cambridge and
Oxford should work towards
defying these stereotypes of
and start making way for
understanding and
acceptance.
To conclude, although it may
oxford are starting to change
their ways and become more
socially and racially inclusive
its clear there is much work to
do yet in terms of more people
getting accepted who are not
made of money and who have
not been brought up on a six-
figure salary. Not only that,
Oxbridge also needs to invest
time in improving the system
for people who already go to
either Cambridge or Oxford
and make the whole
environment more accepting.
So yes, Oxbridge may be
trying but for every student
that believes that their talents
aren’t valid because who they
are just isn’t enough,Oxbridge
is accountable.
