India's first indigenous aircraft carrier (IAC) 'Vikrant' hit the waters for
the first time as the Indian Navy began its sea trials on Wednesday.
During the maiden sailing, the ship's performance, including hull, main
propulsion and auxiliary equipment was closely watched.

"Most of the ship construction activities have been completed and the
ship has entered the trials phase. Readiness of the ship's propulsion
and power generation equipment/systems were tested in harbour as
part of the Basin Trials in November 2020," the Indian Navy said.

At present, India's only operational aircraft carrier is INS

Vikramaditya. Meanwhile, INS Vikrant is under construction. The
Indian Navy has been insisting on a third aircraft carrier as well.
