True Colors Come Out

Thomas Jefferson once said that all men are created equal, explaining the boundaries to be set
by the Constitution of the United States of America. However, the context of his statement is often
questioned. Whites are, in this time of oppression, seen on a higher ranking than blacks. Some even
have the audacity to believe the “evil assumption” (204) that “all niggers lie, that all niggers are basically
immoral beings” (204) in the eyes of society. Even a negros kindness is questioned and believed to have
a greater motivation, such as greed and power. Tom Robinson, a negro of great stature and strong
morals, is seen as a threat to the community of Maycomb, Alabama, for one reason, his race; the
ultimate judgment of any human. Race picks the ranking in society by either giving or taking a
respectable image from a person. Tom Robinson is given the accusation of raping Mayella Ewell, a white
woman, on November 21, 1935. We all know that in our judgmental hearts that we believed in Tom’s
guilt, because this is “typical of a nigger” (240) because it is in “their mentality” (204) to attempt to hurt
whites and break the rules of society. Tom Robinson’s only action taken toward Mayella Ewell was
selfless kindness. Tom went out of his way to help Mayella; a poor, trashy, overworking,
underappreciated woman, with house chores and work tha5 she needed done. The entire town of
Maycome gave the Ewells the back of their hand, and Tom was the only man who showed any respect
and kindness for Mayella. He felt “down right sorry for her” (197) and wanted to lessen the burden of
work for her. However, his kindness what questioned and believed to have a higher motivation. Why
would a negro with so much work to do himself always help Mayella Ewell? Well, Tom is not the typical
fixation of a negro. Tom had no motivation, just the kind heart God bestowed upon him and the strong
desire to help others. Tom Robinson was without any doubt prejudiced against the moment he walked
into the Maycomb county court. He was, for prejudice reasons, not given the benefits of human equality
that all men are given in the court system. The case was put forward to the court in a manner that the
Supreme Court would find unacceptable. There was no medical evidence stating that the crime had
even taken place. Without medical evidence, how would we know of Mayella’s injuries? There were also
faulty testimonies because both Bob and Mayella Ewell had statements that did not match up to prior
information. Lastly, there was a tainted, racist jury that mad the case based upon black and white rather
than informational evidence. A trial in the Supreme Court would have been polar opposite of the court
depicted in Maycomb County. Tom Robinson is an American citizen and deservers the right of due
process in a court of law.

An integral component of any legal claim involving assault and rape is this medical evidence.
Medical evidence is the basis of these claims in the first place, which is documentation supporting
medical injuries sustained by a victim. This evidence, which will include diagnostic information provided
by medical professional medical evidence, provides enough information to allow a prosecutor to
accurately prosecutor its defendant. Without medical evidence, a victim cannot claim said actions have
taken place without a reasonable doubt and chance of perjury. Immediately following an accident, a
victim typically receives medical treatment at the scene, or is transferred to a hospital facility for further
treatment. Both incidents will result in medical documentation, which a victim should obtain for future
reference and use in legal action.
