Learning with a disorder

I have Attention Deficit Disorder or ADD for short. Most people think ADD messes with
someone’s ability to concentrate. However, the learning disorder’s effects vary from person to person.
For me it’s my Organization, multitasking and transferring my thoughts to paper that suffer. In the past
and even now, I have trouble with traditional test-taking methods. Since I also have trouble with
transferring my thoughts on paper, I get very nervous during exams. When taken in with my poor
organization skills and difficulty multitasking, it is easy to see why my grades aren’t a reflection of my
true skills. Overall I can get the information and produce quality work. I simply need more time to
process and gather my confidence.

Personally, I look forward to taking a studio art class at Oglethorpe University, since it will allow
me to learn something in a different manner. Instead of books and papers, I will learn with brushes and
paint. So for me, this will be a new journey for me to undertake. That will hopefully be beneficial and
memorable.
