I am writing to inform you of the recent newsletter I have sent out to our students. Social
media has become a large part of our lives as a society, but it has become an especially large
part of the lives of our teens. While I know that social media has a lot of upsides, such as
networking, diversity, awareness, ect. I wanted to touch on a very important issue that comes
along with all of the perks; body image. Our teens, as well as us adults struggle at times with
the pressure to live up to the beauty standards that social media has put forth into the world.
Due to this, many of our teens are susceptible to suffer from low self-esteem, depression,
anxiety, body dysmorphia, Anorexia, Bulimia, and self-harm. Not being able to always realize
that comparing themselves with others on social media who have used filters to hide all their
flaws or had cosmetic work done, our teens are trying to achieve a look that is unattainable for
them to do in a safe way and losing their own identity in the process. Since we are in a time
when our teens use their phones actively both in and out of school, I feel it is crucial to touch on
this issue so that we can better understand what our kids are going through and learn how best
to help them accept themselves and have confidence. Having a positive body image is vital for
them to be able to have healthy, productive, and happy lives and this is the time in their lives
that they should undoubtedly be healthy, productive and happy. Let's work together to help our

Estimados padres, tutores, familias:
Atentamente,
