Meeting Urban Development Challenges

Meeting Urban Development Challenges tackles the challenges that

that comes with the growth and development of urban areas. The
possible issues that can be brought by urbanization to the
productivity and quality of life of urban dwellers. These issues were
given recommendations in the objective of improving urban and
metropolitan governance, increasing competitiveness of urban
regions, alleviating poverty, developing infrastructure and managing
migration.

Before going to the main ideas, a background about the current

statistics and pieces of information was provided to guide the reader
about what the main idea is all about. Giving such information helps
the reader to understand the ideas introduced in the piece. The
strengths of the piece is that it gives the key issues of the topics
and also gives recommendations on bow to face these challenges by
the said framework, giving solutions to the key issues tackled in the
piece. This piece emphasized the considerations that are to be
made in the process of urbanization of an area and the current and
future challenges that are going to be faced.

In this piece, in developing an area, it is important to consider the

future possibilities that may occur. Because this urbanization will
mainly effect the future quality of life of the people. As time passes
by, more and more areas are being urbanized, creating more
opportunities for people and opportunities for the economy to grow.
Because of this said urbanization, a lot of people tend to migrate
into one place that can provide them better opportunities that the
other areas. Places tend to become populated that it causes issues
to the quality of life, productivity, and governance of a certain area.
As mentioned in the piece are the key issues brought by
urbanization.

Competitiveness and employment creation. Creating enough jobs in

urban areas is a very important task. Because this is the prime goal
of the people migrating to urban areas: to find a job that would
provide them enough for their daily lives and future goals.

Urban poverty. Because of poverty, people migrate from one to

place to another for a bigger chance to get better opportunities. But
the thing is, not all people who transfer to places get the
opportunities, some of them do not and they just add to the over
population in the area. Because of poverty, they would not have the
chance to create even a proper dwelling for themselves. This causes
them to create alternatives by building their homes to the esteros
and supposed to be walking areas that causes problems to access
and causes pollution of the natural resources because they do not
ha access to proper sanitation, paved drainage, clean water and
electricity.

Urban governance and management.

Regional and metropolitan scale infrastructure. Unplanned

development causes environmental damages. Ineffective planning
around the cities hinder growths of a certain area. Affecting the
economy and the productivity of the people. There is a need of
improvement in urban infrastructures such as transportation, water
supply, sanitation and others. To be able to be competitive,
investing to infrastructure and capital investments will be vital in
ensuring a livable urban community.
Following these key issues are recommendations and priority
actions to be made for the betterment in urbanization process and
outcome. Creating a framework helps develop the urban areas on to
livable and globally competitive areas.

As and architecture student, this piece hold my interest and made

me read the whole piece because it tackled a very timely and
relevant topic. In my point of view, the issues pin pointed out in this
article are also seen in my community like enhancing
competitiveness and alleviating urban poverty. This piece made me
realize the importance of urbanization, how it helps not only the
economy and the quality of the life of the people but also the
community and environment as a whole. It gave me opportunities
to have visions, ideas for the future developments of my community
and to other places.
