Language Analysis in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

Every novel has their own language style, which would help the novel to
become more attractive to the readers. About the language in Harry Potter and
the Philosopher’s Stone, it is definitely the modern language and the novel even
includes a range of special words and phrases which are really interesting. The
story was told by the third person who observes everything in an informal form,
which make the readers feel more freedom and no pressure to finish the book.
Besides that freedom-feeling, the author also used a huge number of literary
devices such as metaphor, simile, analogy and fanstactic words to make the
language in the novel become more various and attractive. Moreover, given the
fact that Harry Potter book was written for every age, especially the youngers, J.
K. Rowling used the modern language, and to be clearer, teenager’s language to
write Harry Potter, as I feel. Besides a lot of beautiful words in the novel, there
are also some funny words belonging to the teenagers to make the story more
interesting. If you have ever read the novel, you can even see some curse words
in the conversation between Harry and Ron. A lot of sentence structures, tenses
and voices were used in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, but no matter
how various the language is, we can still feel the excitement in each page. It is a
child’s excitement to discover more about the interesting world of the wizards,
to discover about the fantastic spells, etc. It was likely that the author wanted to
come back to her childhood’s dream about a magical world, which made the
language used in Harry Potter become so dreamy and special. Reading Harry
