PRIMARY PURPOSE
Business Intelligence team is responsible for delivering BI strategies and Data Warehousing solutions for SLHD
Performance Unit. The main purpose of BI strategies is to provide a robust, secure, reliable platform that delivers a
single source of truth and enables clinicians/managers to use data for critical decision making. The Senior Data
Engineer/Architect role exists to provide knowledge and guidance in handling disparate data sources from varied
databases, build and maintain the Data Architecture for the SLHD Performance Unit. This role is responsible for the
timeliness & accuracy of data flow from source systems and the optimisation of data storage & accessibility to meet
internal and external reporting demands.

external, and develop data management plans.
• Design and build modern data pipelines and data streams.
• Develop and maintain ETL processes to meet business requirements.
• Monitor the overall performance and stability of the system and recommend/implement ETL process and
architecture improvements.
• Ensuring that all data is modelled, named, and defined consistently.
• Create, capture, and maintain metadata.
• Identifying and classifying data access levels and ensure the security and privacy of data.
• Confirm validity of data in destination system and that it reconciles to source system. Identify and resolve
issues with data quality.
• Ensure systems and processes are in place and working to provide timely, accurate and relevant data
information to decision makers.
• Implement best practice for system maintenance, development and standards to improve system
efficiency and reduce processing redundancy.
• Collaborate with system architects, analysts, developers and business experts to understand business or
industry requirement.

• Developing and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of data sources analytical and reporting tools.
• Ensuring required level of flexibility, adaptability to respond to project demands with the ability to work
independently and with minimal supervision.

SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Software/Computer Engineering, Mathematics or
Data Science and/or relevant equivalent professional experience.
2. Experience working in cloud infrastructures and high level of competency with Azure Data Factory
(authoring and monitoring Pipelines, Datasets and Data Flows) and Databricks.

3. Strong working knowledge and skills in one or more of the following languages: Python, R and Scala for
ETL purposes.
4. Demonstrated experience with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.
5. Demonstrated experience with Azure: Blob Storage, Key Vault and DevTestLabs.
6. Proficiency in data modelling and design, including SQL development and database administration,
database management and data warehousing.
7. Experience in utilising PowerBI and other Business Intelligence solutions such as Qlik and R Shiny.
8. Ability to problem solve, prioritise workload and meet deadlines, both autonomously and within a team in
an environment with minimal supervision.
