Skill Workers
The work will be carried out by qualified personnel in a neat and workmanlike manner
conforming to all applicable project specification under the responsibility of Foreman .Site
Engineer will assist the Foreman in implementation and control of work and associated safety
procedures. Safety officer will ensure that all the activities are carried out in accordance with
the relevant safety regulations. Project Manager will supervise the work on top.

6. Material Control
- All materials send to the job site will be from approved source
- All material will be inspected in accordance with the procedure for the material’s
loading, unloading, data sheets, storage and distribution. Coating material shelf
life will be checked for expiry date. RFI will be issued for inspection.
- Coating Material will be stored in cool and dry place well ventilated and free
from excessive heat, open flame or source of ignition and CHEC’s central store is
selected for that purpose.
7. WORKING PROCEDURE

- As per specification the surface will be blast cleaned and the cleaning will
produce A surface finish to BS 7079:2009.
- If there any organic substance such as oil, grease and other contaminant will be
removed in accordance with specification prior to blasting operation
- All rough welds. Burrs and sharp surface projections shall be ground smooth and
all weld spatters will be removed prior to blasting operation.
- Sand will be used as blast cleaning abrasive.
- All surfaces including welding seams will be blast cleaned to Sa 2⅟2 of BS 7079
(very thorough blast cleaning. Mill scale, rust and foreign matter shall be
removed to the extent that the only traces remaining are slight stains in the forms
of spots or stripes).
- The surface roughness will not exceed 100 microns as per SPECIFICATION-
1815-1.01.
- If blasting is not possible in welded seams, alternative method will be used as per
procedure specified in the SPECIFICATION-01815-1.02 (D).
- Grit and dust then will be thoroughly removed with brush and compressed air
free of oil and water.
- The surface will be compared by surface profile comparator and surface profile
depths and the range will be determined.
- The surface profile comparator will be used by either visual or tactile comparison
with the surface to be inspected and the two segments that bracket the test surface
are determined.

- For each coats as per manufacturer instruction touch dry is 2 hours and final
curing period for use is 7 days. See APPENDIX E.
- The finish coating surface will be of uniform color and free from pinhole,
peeling, sags and runs etc. which will be checked, inspected and approved by the
consultant engineer.
7.5. Drying/Curing
- All drying and re-coat times will be that specified by manufacturer and project
specification. See APPENDIX E.
- Curing will conform to the manufacturer’s recommendation. See APPENDIX E.
- Paint will be protected from rain, condensation, contamination until dry to fullest
extent practical.
- No paint subjected to immersion before it is thoroughly dried or cured.
- The dry film thickness of individual coats and of the total coating system will be
checked at 5 random locations over areas representative of the work in progress.
- As per recommendation by manufacturer, dry film thickness will be 30-40 µm
See APPENDIX E.
- No coat or finished coating will be less than 75% of the nominal thickness as per
SPECIFICATION-02457-3.04 G
- With the exception of areas such as welds etc. the minimum dry film thickness
will not exceed by more than 50%.
- Dry film thickness will be measured with a magnetic thickness gauge suitable for
given type of coating thickness range and substrate material.
- Damaged painting and coating, and/or coating which does not pass the holiday
detection test will be repaired and retested to the satisfaction of consultant/client.
- The coating materials used for repair and maintenance will be same as the
original materials.

- The surface preparation method for repair will depend upon the size of areas to
be coated and the repair coating materials required.
- The area of the coating damage or holiday, along with the adjacent area of
coating for a minimum of 25 mm on all sides will be thoroughly prepared.
- The painting repair method will be as per pain manufacturer’s specification.
- Repair coating will applied so that the final coat overlaps the surrounding sound
coating for a minimum 25 mm
8. SAFETY CONTROL
- Safeties in blasting and painting operation are paramount. Both operators and
supervisors will must be fully conversant with all safety requirements associated
with blasting and cleaning scaffolding and access platforms, ventilation in in
enclosed areas as per project safety plan.
- The PPE requirement include hard hat with chin strap, safety glasses, coverall
with long sleeves, steel toed safety shoes, safety harness, working gloves and ear
plugs when working.
- Only experienced and competent persons with valid work permit will be allowed
to operate all the equipment’s every day after checked by safety officer.
- Extreme precaution will be used when working with paint materials, cleaning
fluids, etc. especially in close proximity to oxygen piping or oxygen equipment.
- Heavy concentration of volatile or toxic fumes shall be used.

&Impounding Reservoir Project 12a- Painting and Protective Work
- Safety devices and safety warnings shall be provided starting from the site
entrance gate till the casting area.
- All safety precaution will be complying with the contractor’s project safety
plan.
- The completed coating will be checked for adhesion by means of adhesion test to BS
3900 part E6, carried out on 10% on the piles. The adhesion of any completed coating
will not be worse than classification 2 (The coating has flaked along the edges
and/or at the intersections of the cuts. A cross-cut area greater than 5 %, but not
greater than 15 %, is affected)
- As per specification Adhesion test will not carry out until seven days after
coating.
- Pre form of inspection sheets for quality control is attached in Appendix C.
