Case study: Corporate Adventures, new units and Tiger Teams

Q1. Explain each of the following in terms of different approaches to achieving corporate
entrepreneurship.

A: The main objective of corporate entrepreneurial is to emulate the behavior of smaller, lean
and mean entrepreneurial ventures that are innovative and nimble. For example is Bausch &
lomb, the multinational medical instrument and Optics Company, has created tiger teams. These
are autonomous groups of scientists given resources and freedom of action to develop new
product.

Q2. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of the different approaches taken by each
company to encourage innovations or to introduce new product.

A: Advantages

Advantage which is discussed in this case study mentioned here is Texas instruments,
innovations are encouraged by any employee or company group if an idea has promise. TI backs
the idea with resources and allows employees to form an ad hoc division to pursue it. Once it
developed to the stage of successful test marketing, the product is bought on line through one
TI's primary divisions. A notable success is the speak and spell family of products.
Disadvantages

Disadvantage which is discussed in case study is on the down side, many corporate efforts to
emulate entrepreneurial venture have failed, but few companies make these failures public
Exxon corporation wasted more than $10 billion several years ago developing but it failed. There
strategies towards company are failing due to wrong information, technology measures, what
kind of changes requires what public want. We always depend on customers need and demand.

Q3. Examine the problem, real or perceived of Weyerhaeuser’s effort to position its diaper
product against major competitors. What do you see as critical mistakes or problems that led
to failure?

A: Weyerhaeuser's disappear had unique features that included cushy waistbands and patented
cuffs to stop leakage. Ultrasofts were made with cloth like covers and used superabsorbent pulp
material. But the main (problem) comes from that point is Weyerhaeuser (executives) blame
failure on poor (Planning) and (uncoordinated) operations that drove costs up too high to

compete. In addition corporate marketing budget that was never absorbed by sales, the company
new venture pilot plant experienced breakdown, fires, labor problems and snarled production led
to failure.
