Reading
1 Read Daniel’s email to Emily and answer the questions.
1 Where has he been recently?
The National Centre for Traditional Arts in Yi-Lan.
2 What recommendations does he make?
She really has to go and check it out for yourself and she really need more than one day to
see it properly.
2 What do you learn about the following?
1 The last time Daniel saw Emily.
They had that brilliant meal at your house.
2 Emily’s summer plans.
She planned to go to Sea.
3 Daniel’s recent activities.
He is now back at work and he has been really busy, catching up with emails and other
things.
4 Things to buy at the Centre.
Traditional handicrafts like ceramics, toys and clothes and calligraphy.
5 What Daniel saw and did at the Centre.
He watched some fascinating performances of traditional dance, as
well as demonstrations of traditional crafts. Also he ate loads of delicious
Taiwanese snacks.
6 The most interesting part of the Centre.
For he the most interesting part was a beautiful old town inside the center.
7 The appearance of the town.
The town is basically a reconstruction of a traditional Taiwanese town. The
whole town is built and decorated in an authentic style, so that when you
go inside you feel as if you're walking into Taiwan of the 19th century.
8 The atmosphere of the town.
It has a really peaceful, nostalgic atmosphere.

3 I took loads of pictures.
4 You really have to go and check it out for yourself.
5 A lot of things have happened actually.
6 Well, I went there with some friends last weekend!

Preparing to write

1. Where and when did you go?
To Chan Chan and I went with my parents before the quarantine is approved
2. What was it like?
It was wonderful, its architecture was impressive and the entire citadel is so large that it is
best to have a guide accompany you
3. What did you see and do?
I walked around the entire citadel and bought some nice ceramic souvenirs

4. What was the most interesting part?


For me, all the ruin is impressive, from its architecture to its distribution

5. Is it worth visiting? Why / Why not?


Of course it is worth visiting it because the ruin is very beautiful and is part of the history of
our country, next time I will go with my friend and we will be all day walking through the ruins

A: Oh, I do. I love those films. I love suspense and that sort of thing.
B: I don’t hate them, but they don’t surprise me. If I see a suspense movie I kind of want to feel
tense. I want to feel nervous and stuff
A: You’re being a bit…kind of… difficult.

Writing
Work in pairs and choose one of the tasks below.

an idea for a film containing all three.
2 Write the beginning of your film in no more than 50 words.

1 Write about a film you know that includes one or more of the plot devices.
2 Exchange paragraphs with your partner.

A mother and her daughter Sarah buy a new house in Manhattan, but the night after the move,
three intruders brutally invade their home. The mother sees them through video cameras and hides
with her daughter in "the panic room "of his luxurious house in New York, but the room itself will be
the center of attention as the thieves look for some bank bonds that are hidden in that room, then a
fight of the intruders to enter the room and the mother and daughter for taking refuge from these.

1 It’s fine for children to have specific time to relax without neglecting homework.
2 There is no reason why the child should not be punished, as long as the punishments do not
harm or injure them
