Bangles represents the various stages of life which a a woman comes across .

Naidu incorporates nature

and the various hues of nature to represent her subject matter. She covers all kinds of colors to present
emotions like hope, happiness, desire, love, and pride. The aftereffect is a rainbow encompassing the
different emotions in each passing phase of her life. The soft glowing bangles are a symbol of the life of
women glowing with joy , love & health. They are reflective of the joys these women experience in life ,
from childhood innocence to marriage to motherhood, this is due to the fact that they all have the same
purpose and are thus seen singularly as a class essence.

Sarojni Naidu Has categorized it into 4 stages.

Silver, blue & pink represents maidenhood. The maiden unmarried girl wears
silver ,pink and blue colored bangles indication of her calm and innocent life
that these young maiden might be leading in their protected household & the
“shyness” of young girls dreaming of marriage.
The Color yellow- represents the morning of her wedding. While the colour red
or orange symbolizes a new bride’s love and desire for her husband.

The gold represents motherhood & matriarchy. This is the time when she
becomes a mother who nurture's her son, stands by her husband and is the
queen of her husband's house.
The Color Purple symbolizes royalty and authority which she gains in due
course with her hard work & loyalty.
The Color Grey shows her old age and the maturity, grace & wisdom she has
attained by passing through the various stages of life.
Patriarchy:
Although it is only alluded to in innuendos, the patriarchal ideology lurks beneath
the poem’s surface. The women are described as either happy ‘daughters’ or
‘wives.’ Every phase she passes is referred to by a man in her life, father, husband,
sons. The woman in this poem is fit into boxes that limit their existence to being a
possessed object of patriarchy. Even if this poem is ironic, it still discusses the
ideas propagated by the patriarchal society.
