The document asks several questions about calculating the volume of liquid nitrogen required to fill and pressurize a 10 cubic meter pipeline. It provides a formula for calculating the nitrogen volume required to purge equipment based on the water volume of the pipeline and the absolute pressure of nitrogen. It then works through calculations to determine that 3.815 US gallons of liquid nitrogen would be required to fill 10 cubic meters at atmospheric pressure, and 8 US gallons would be required to fill it at a pressure of 30 psi.

I would like to know the nitrogen volume calculation
To pressurize 10 cubic meter of pipe line ,how much volume
nitrogen required on the below condition ? 1. only to purge at positive pressure? 2. pressurize with 30psi ? how much gallon of liquid nitrogen required fill 1 cubic meter at atm pressure? how much gallon of liquid nitrogen required fill 1 cubic meter at 30psi pressure? please share your stuff .
ANASWER One cubic meter = 264.17 US gallons.
So ten cubic meter pipeline requires 2,641.7 US gallons of liquid
nitrogen to fill. This is correct for 1 atmosphere and 30psi (both psig and psia).
Hi Crabtree
Requirement of purging/lay up for commissioing. Pressure does
not matter . I would like to calculate the volume in gallon for final pressure.
i have note this formula
The nitrogen volume required to purge equipment with a
simple cross section is determined using the following formula:
V = VoP/14.7 Where:
V = Total nitrogen volume required (scf)
Vo = Water volume of pipeline (cf)
P = Absolute pressure of nitrogen in the pipeline
during purging (psia)
Is it right?
To calculate vol. of liquid N2 to fill 10 Cu. m of N2 at ambient
temp. we proceed as follows:
22.4 M3 of any gas at NTP (1 atm. & 0 deg. C) weighs equal to
its Mol. wt. in kg.
which means 10 M3 vol. of N2 at NTP weighs = (28/22.4)*10 =
12.5 kg
To calculate wt. at ambient (say 20 deg. C) the wt. will be less as
