Ac ∪ B c
2. Prove that if A ⊂ B and C ⊂ D then (A ∩ C) ⊂ (B ∩ D) and (A ∪ C) ⊂
(B ∪ D)

3. Using the properties of the reals prove that there is a unique identity for
the sum.
4. Solve the following inequalities.
a) 2|x − 4| + 4 < 2
b) |x − 1| + |2 − x| > 5
c) 2|x + 2| − |x + 5| < 4.
5. Prove that if c < 0 and x < y then cx > cy.
6. Using the fundamental inequality prove that a2 + b2 + c2 > ab + ac + bc
(You may have to use it several times.)
