1 Layout of pits with reference to grid pillars and

keeping allowance from face of substructure.
Excavation in slopes or steps as specified and /
2 or required, stacking soil at a distance at least
half the depth of excavation from excavation
area.
Checking for subsoil water and providing shoring
3 & strutting wherever required and barricading the
pits.

4 De-watering and dressing the bottom level of

pits.
5 Identification of stratum (soil / rock).

6 Check for obstacles encountered (cables, pipes).
