Dear Parents,

My name is Nathan LaFerney and I will be your child’s math teacher this year. I’m a graduate of Texas
A&M University where I studied mathematics. I look forward to sharing my knowledge of math with
your child this year.

This year we will be covering a lot of material so it is important that your child is ready to go when they
arrive in class. Have any necessary pencils, paper and folders ready so we can begin right away. We
begin class right at the bell and remain productive through the whole period. I will try to minimize
homework but it depends how much we can accomplish in class. Your child will also be expected to have
organized notes which I will check once a week. The student will also be expected to work in a group so
they will need to exercise leadership along with supporting other students.

Grading will be made up of homework/classwork, quizzes, tests and behavior. Homework and classwork
will count for 30% of their overall grade and if turned in late will be deducted 10 points per day late.
Quizzes will count for 30% of their grade and will be used primarily for checking understanding. Tests
will contain material from homework and quizzes and will count for 30% of the grade. The last 10%
comes from a behavior and note check grades I take.

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to reach me at my email or cell phone number. I am
available before or after school and during our lunch period. I am looking forward to the year with your
child and I know it will be great.

Thank you,

Nathan LaFerney
