HOW TSUNAMI HAPPENS ?

In Indonesia, we are very familiar with the word “tsunami”. Tsunami originated from Japan, “tsu”
means harbor and “nami” means wave. Tsunami is the deadliest wave because the wave speed is
incredibly fast. This natural disaster has ever killed thousands of people that lived in Banda Aceh, a
few years ago. Indonesia mourned, the world mourned. Then, how the tsunami happens? Here is a
brief explanation of the process how the Asian tsunami happens. Tsunami can occur if there is a
phenomenon which cause the displacement of large amounts of water in the ocean. Such as,
volcanic eruption, earthquake, landslide and meteor that fall to earth. However, 90% of tsunami is
the result of underwater earthquake. Vertical movement in the earth crust in bottom of ocean
causes a sudden up or down movement of sea floor which then causes the water balance disorders
above it. This interuption causes the happening of the flow of the massive sea water energy, that
once it reaches the coast, it become huge waves resulting Tsunami. So, tsunami is happen because
of natural disasters such as earthquakes or volcanic eruptions. People who live near the shoreline
have to be careful because theybare threatened by tsunami’s whenever there is an eartquake.
