A tsunami is a series of extremely long waves caused by a large and sudden displacement of

the ocean, usually the result of an earthquake below or near the ocean floor. This force creates

waves that radiate outward in all directions away from their source, sometimes crossing entire

ocean basins.

2. Most tsunamis are caused by earthquakes on converging tectonic plate boundaries.

However, tsunamis can also be caused by landslides, volcanic activity, certain types of weather,

and—possibly—near-earth objects colliding with or exploding above the ocean.

3.Be aware to the surroundings to find out if there is a tsunami and leave the area near the sea or

coastal areas to survive and go to high buildings

1.In order to us to survive we need to leave the building immediately and make sure that there no

more aftershocks and avoid the power lines and if you are trapped in a building and earthquake

come find something durable things or hide under the table in order to survive and avoid glasses

or windows.

2.Primary Effects

1.Ground Shaking

2.Ground Rupture

3.Collapse of infrastructure

Secondary Effects

4.Landslides

5.Tsunamis

3. Tsunami waves are very different from tidal waves. A tidal wave is by definition

a wave caused by ocean tides, whereas a tsunami is almost always caused by an earthquake

under water.
Mind Challenge

1. Magnitude and Intensity measure different characteristics of

earthquakes. Magnitude measures the energy released at the source of the

earthquake. Magnitude is determined from measurements on seismographs. Intensity measures

the strength of shaking produced by the earthquake at a certain location.

Examples:

1.Intensity I

2.Intensity II

3.Intensity III

4.Intensity IV

2.The first step I will take is to prepare my family and relatives for them to be ready and I will tell

them in where we meet in case we need to evacuate and I will tell to them to ready or prepare a

emergency kit

Active Fault Location Types of Fault

Marikina Valley Marikina Strike-slip Fault
Fault
Mindanao Fault South Cotabato Left-Lateral Fault

Central Philippine Masbate Slow slip Fault

Fault
1.Luzon That has Fault line

1.Marikina 4.Marikina City

2.Quezon City 5.Binan Laguna

3.Pasig
2. The west segment, known as the West Valley Fault (WVF) is one of the two major fault segments
of the Valley Fault System which runs through Metro Manila to the cities of Marikina, Quezon City,
Pasig, Makati, Taguig and Muntinlupa and moves in a dominantly dextral strike-slip motion.

2.To make as aware in surroundings and to know where is the fault line covers and know what
to do in case of earthquake

3.Yes,Quezon City is
affected of Marikina valley fault according to google the Marikina valley fault is covered quezon city
that’s why quezon city is affected by the fault.Marikina and quezon city is the most dangerous place
on ncr because of west valley fault.

4.Davao City because it is the most livable place in the world because of its primary low crime rates.

1. The characteristics may be summarized as follows. (a) Fault zones usually are irregular,
branched, anastomosed, and curved rather than simple and planar. (b) Faults are generally
composed of one or more clay or clay-like gouge zones in a matrix of sheared and foliated
rock bordered by highly fractured rock.
