Q1: What drives the Europeans to explore the world?

There are three main reasons for European Exploration. For the sake of their economy, religion and glory.
They wanted to improve their economy for instance by acquiring more spices, gold, and better and faster trading
routes. Merchants dreamed of new sources for goods such as spices and golds. For how many centuries, Arab
traders hold the routes where the trading system exist and because of that European merchant were forced to buy
goods at higher price. With this reason, European set on an exploration of different routes towards the Africa and
Asia in order for them to acquire more sources of spices and golds that will surely help their economy. At the same
time, they really believed in the need to spread their religion, Christianity. European Christians began the Crusades,
a campaign of violence against Muslims to dominate the Holy Lands. The Crusades or explorations and the
Reconquista cemented religious intolerance, and the Christians looked to colonization partly as a means of
continuing religious conquests. Finally, they explored for their own personal interest like fame from discovering
new land. Discovering a new land or routes where in no one attempt or dare to set foot through are biggest
achievement of them all. When you discover a certain land or routes, you are also the first to gain and use all the
materials or things that might exist on that land such as spices and golds and with that, glory to discover new things
are one of the reasons why European voyage the world.
Q2: How did the age of colonization shape the history of the world?

Colonialism defined as “control by one power over a dependent area or people”. It is the act of taking
control of other place or land by means of force or violence. Age of colonization shape the history of the world by
many ways. Discovering new lands and routes are one of these or so called Age of Discovery. When Europeans set
sail on the sea in order to reach the other part of the world where no dare to do so, it means they have the rights on
that land if they truly discover a new one. Everything on that said new land will be their property. As they set a new
voyage to reach other part of the world to discover more, the things, culture or traditions that they gain on the
previous lands will be adapted by the new people of the new land that they will discover and it will spread on the
neighboring lands also. Spices, golds, religions, traditions, culture, beliefs and etc. are the things that will surely
spread and adapted in each of the lands that they will conquer and colonize. Also they races will surely spread if one
of the sailors or soldiers might fall in love with the people of the land. New civilizations where in there are mix races
because of the voyage happening will surely rise and spread quickly. Therefore, until this day, the culture, belief and
traditions of those conquerors are seen on every corner of the world especially on the Europe side and Africa
country. On the other hand, if there were positive effects of the age of colonization that affects the history of the
world, there were also negative effects of it. When colonizing a land, if they cannot conquer it in a peace way, they
will force them and use violence in order to subjugate the land. Many people died, suffer and tortured because of
this actions. People in any part of the land in the world experience slavery if they didn’t give their lands, the weak
will be killed and the strong will survive, that is the law before. Shortage of foods, shelter and other necessities also
happen because of that. When explorers travel from one land to another, they might spread diseases that cannot be
cured yet because of the available medicine before. In short, there are also many negative effects that the age of
colonization brought in this world and this will see especially on Africa and America part of the country.
