Pine County 4-H “Making Summer Colorful” Day Camp

Date: August 28th, 2020

Time: 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Location: Voyageur Park in Pine City (near Pine County Fairgrounds)

We are so excited to announce that we are able to have our first in-person day camp this
summer! This will be a fun afternoon for your child to interact with other youth in 4-H by
playing outdoor games and making tie dye t-shirts. Your child will be asked to bring certain
items and follow guidelines set in place by the University of Minnesota that will be
explained in this document. This event is limited to the first 25 youth who register, so please
RSVP to Ellen at harth029@umn.edu by August 18th at 11:59 p.m.

The program will begin with a welcome, check-in, and safety guideline expectations. The
check in activity will consist of each participant, volunteer, and staff member introducing
themselves and talking about their favorite 4-H project area. The main purpose of this day
camp is to bring youth together to keep a connection with other Pine County 4-H youth and
have a fun filled day through the activities we have planned. Youth learning objectives will
consist of following directions, using primary colors to make other colors (ex: blue +
yellow=Green), blending colors, being creative in t-shirt designs, and respecting guidelines
set by the University of Minnesota. This educational experience will provide youth with
knowledge on primary color usage, designing and creating a fun project.

Supplies Needed
● White T-Shirt for each child to tie dye
● A water bottle or drink of your choice
● Snacks if you do not want your child to have what 4-H provides
● Have your child wear clothing that they can get dirty
● A mask; cloth, medical, or respirators will suffice
Exceptions include
○ When eating or drinking; however physical distancing must be observed.
○ If an individual has a disability or medical condition that makes wearing a face
covering difficult or impossible.
○ Children who are unable to reliably wear, remove, and handle the facemask
throughout the program.
In-Person Day Camp Safety Protocols
Screening - Parents will be asked to take their child(ren)’s temperature before arriving at
the day camp. If any participant reports they did not do a temperature check before arriving,
a parent or accompanying adult will be provided with a thermometer to take the
temperature. If no accompanying adult is present, the health screener will take the
individual’s temperature while wearing a mask and gloves. (See In-Person 4-H Day Camp
and Project Workshop Safety Protocol, Health Policies)

The participants will be asked the following health screening questions: Did you take your
temperature today? Was it below 100.4? Do you have a fever? Chills? A new cough?
Shortness of breath? A new sore throat? New muscle aches? New headache? New loss of
smell or taste? If any participants have a temperature over 100.4 or exhibit any symptoms,
they will not be able to attend the day camp. A location will be identified to isolate
symptomatic staff, volunteers, or participants while they wait to be picked up or are able to
leave on their own.

Health Etiquette - On the day that the event begins, there will be a verbal conversation
about the symptoms of COVID-19, health etiquette expectations (handwashing, covering
mouth or using tissue when sneezing or coughing) and social distancing expectations. (See
In-Person 4-H Day Camp and Project Workshop Safety Protocol).

Participants, volunteers, and staff will be required to use hand sanitizer upon entering the
activity area. Everyone will be required to use hand sanitizer before and after using the
restrooms. Picnic tables, door knobs to restrooms, and items shared between participants
will be regularly disinfected by a screened 4-H volunteer.
