Product Overview ‘An AIR unit consists of two Radio Units (RUs) integrated with an antenna. tis intended to be used in a Main-Remote configuration in the same fashion as conventional Remote Radio Units (RRUs).. ‘The antenna in the AIR units a dusl-polarized antenna. The clive part of the AIR unit suppods GSM, WCDMA, and LTE. The passive part Of the AIR unit supports frequency bands shown in Table 3. The actve and passive parts of the antenna in the AIR unit can simultaneously be used for different radio network access standards. Each integrated antenna part has the Remote Electrica! Tit (RET) function and can be electrically tited independent Of the electrical tit of the other antenna part ‘The AIR unit can also be mechenically ted by using the down tit installation kit. The RUs in the active part are connected to the Digtal Unit (DU) part of the RBS main unit. The passive part of the AIR unit can be connected to fan RU in another RBS with the AIR unit functioning as a standard antenne. One or two fiber optic cables connect the AIR unit active pert fo the RBS mein Unit. Two optional Radio Frequency (RF) cables can connect the AIR unit passive part to another RBS. ‘Two optional RF cables can be connected to the RX sharing ports of the AIR init to extemal equipment. The RX sharing ports ere not avallable on all AIR Unit types. Pole installations can be either ‘on monopoles or masts (or towers). Generic Requirements The AIR unitis installed with the cable connections facing down. Allow a minimum of 1 m free space below the AIR unit to ensure sufficient working space. To ensure adequate sirflow between the units, allow a minimum of 400 mm free space above each AIR unit. Free space is needed between AIR units installed side by side, Teble 9 lists the required free space. The solar shield is also part of he coaling design, AIR Unit Components The following section describes the AIR unit components. ‘An AIR unit has two RUs integrated with an antenna, The antenna in the AIR Unit is @ duakpolarized antenna that supports both the active and passive: Parts ofthe AIR unit. ‘The active part ofthe AIR unit consists of two RUs Integrated into the same enclosure as the antenna. The components in the active pert of the AIR unit are one Radio Interface Board (RIB), two Transmitter and Receiver (TRX) boards, one Surge Protection Device (SPD), one Remote Electrical Ti (RET) and two Power Amplifiers (PAs) and filters ‘The passive part of the AIR unit allows connection to an existing RBS with the AIR Unit functioning as a standard antenna with one RET. Configuration of RET Control AIR RET control is released in two variants: with and without RET Cascading suppor. AIR units without RET Cascading support are no longer possibie to order. In AIR units without RET Cascading, the RET in the active part of he AIR: Unit is controlled only by the RBS connected to the active part of the AIR Unit. The RET in the passive partis controlled by the RBS connected to the Passive part of the AIR unit. ln AIR units with RET Cascading, it is possible to control both RETS in the AIR unit from either the active or passive connected RBS. However, itis not possible to split the RET control, he connected RBSs must be configured so that both RETS are controlled by either the active RBS or the passive RBS. Note: The AIR unit has no maintenance button. ‘The AIR unit contains two physically separate radio boards with a common MMI. The MMI interface Is therefore @ combination of status signals from both radio boards.
