How can teachers encourage kindergarten students to be creative?

- I think we can encourage kindergarten students to be creative by giving them open-ended

materials to play with and open-ended tasks to complete. We have to encourage them to take
risks and understand that learning requires patience to try and try again.

- I agree that risk taking is so important. Loose parts and manipulatives are a great way to
encourage creativity as well as stretching students to use materials that they wouldn’t normally
associate with one another (ex. Use items from nature to create a self portrait). There are also
so many wonderful read alouds to have students see the value in ‘out of the box’ and creative
thinking. By prompting students to expand on their unique ideas and provide positive feedback
often we are encouraging them to be creative.
