Information security is vital in every aspect of life. In recent times people are starting to keep more and
more of their data online. In this essay, I will analyze the advantages and disadvantages of this data
storing method and give my own conclusion.

On the other hand, online information storage possesses several big flaws too. It is undeniable that
compared to physical storage cloud storage is magnitudes more vulnerable to security breaches. Due to
the quantity of clients and the interconnected nature of the internet, hackers could easily slip through
backdoors and steal vital, top secret data which could then be used to blackmail or even scamming.
Furthermore, users are very dependent on the storage service providers. Different service providers
have different policies on compatible devices and softwares, which forces client to relied on only one
provider, thus reducing user flexibility and independency.

On the one hand, there are a number of reasons why people prefer to keep personal information online.
First, storing data on clouds may provide a marked improvement in productivity. Modern online cloud
services have the ability to store massive amount of data, as well as the ability to synchronize between
individual end-devices allows users to work any where any time, with any device without too much of a
hindrance. In addition, online cloud storage allows for backup of important data. Vital information to
individual or organizations such as legal documents or financial statements could be stored on clouds
and recovered in the event that the physical storage containing the data fails.

In conclusion, while still having a few flaws, the advantages of online data storage clearly outweigh the
disadvantages.
