People usually rate one’s success based on how wealthy said individual was.

However, others argue that

how successful one is should be based on their contribution to society. In this essay, I will analyze
evidences supporting both views and give my own opinion.

On the one hand, there are reasons why people would use wealth as a scale of success. First, it is
obvious that those who are wealthy are very successful in their expertise. For instance tech billionaires
like Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos, who run multi billion dollars tech empire which they build from scratch
Slifestyle. Things such as supercars, huge mansion, jewelry, etcetera… that normal people can’t buy
leads to the school of thought of a perfect life of successful people.

On the other hand, there are several evidence supporting the belief that successful people are those
who contribute to society. It is clear that without the intellectuals’ contributions, the human civilization
wouldn’t be as advanced and successful as today. Pioneering scientists and inventors like Tesla, Edison
or Newton discovered and provided groundwork for future generations that are still used today, proving
they are very successful people themselves. Moreover, it is notable that rich, successful people could be
contributing intellectually to society too. For instance Elon Musk, who made a fortune selling electronic
cars and launching rockets into space, is contributing by trying to improve batteries for his car, or finding
better ways to send rockets up into space.

In conclusion, while being wealthy is a sign of success, it is not all there is to it. Admittedly those who are
successful in contributing intellectually to society usually profited from their ideas themselves.
