OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR SNOWBLOWER A sarev 4 Before you attempt to operate this machine, read and study the following safety information. In addition, make sure that every individual who operates or works with this equipment, whether family member or employee, is familiar with these safety precautions. ‘The safety alert symbol above means ATTENTION! BECOME ALERT! YOUR SAFETY IS INVOLVED! REMEMBER: The careful operator is the best operator. Most accidents are caused by human error. Certain precautions must be observed to prevent the possibility of injury or damage. HAZARD WARNINGS ‘The use of the words CAUTION, WARNING or DANGER herein and on the machine itseif signals three degrees of hazard. CAUTION is used for general reminders of good safety practice or to direct attention to tunsafe practices. WARNING is used to denote a specific potential hazard. DANGER is used to denote the most serious potential hazard. The following HAZARD WARNINGS are used here and on the snowblower. Be very familiar with them before operating this machine: AX caution: Do net stant, operate, or work on this machine unl you have carefuly read and thoroughly understand the contents of the operator manual. Failure to follow safety, operating, and maintenance instructions could result in death or serious injury to the operator or bystanders, poor operation, and costly breakown, Unless otherwise instructed by decal or operator's manual, stop engine before leaving ‘operator's position, and wait forall movement to stop before attempting to adjust, lubricate, unclog or inspect. Exercise mandatory shut-down procedure, ‘Always observe safety rules shown on decals. If decals become damaged, or if the unit is repainted, replace the decals. If repainting, be sure that all decals which apply to your machine, are affixed to your unit. Become familiar and know how to use all the safety devices and controls on the snowblower before attempting to operate the unit. Know how to stop the unit before starting it. WARNING: Read and observe all warnings on machine before attempting to operate the snowblower. Do Not attempt to operate this machine unless all factory installed safety devices are in place. WARNING: Never attempt to lubricate the blower with the engine running. Always be sure to exercise the ‘mandatory safety shut-down procedure. DANGER: Escaping fluid under pressure can be invisible and can penetrate the skin. Do not use hands to search for leaks! DANGER: Hydraulic lines or other components can be hot after operation! PEPE Er EE EE PP MANDATORY SHUT-DOWN PROCEDURE Work of any type on machinery is always more dangerous when the machine is operating. BEFORE cleaning, adjusting, lubricating or servicing any part of this unt, the folowing MANDATORY SHUT-DOWN PROCEDURE should ALWAYS be followed: 1. Disengage all power to snowblower, (PTO, hydraulic valve, or clutch, etc... 2. Move throttle to slow idle position, shut off engine and remove ignition key. A DANGER: Hydraulic system can contain stored energy or pressure when and if blowerbecomes. plugged. This energy can be released when unplugging machine. Read and observe all safety information and decals on the blower before operating the unit. In addition, familiarize yourself with all of the safety devices and periodically check that they are functioning properly. REMEMBER! Itis the owner's responsibility for communicating information on the safe use and proper maintenance of this machine. GENERAL SAFETY and PREPARATION 1. Read this manual carefully. Be thoroughly familiar with the controls and proper use of the equipment. Know how to stop the unt and disengage the controls quickly. Be sure the operator knows how to exercise the mandatory shut-down procedure. (See mandatory shut-down procedure page 3). 2. Never allow children to operate equipment. Never allow adults to operate equipment without proper instructions. 3. Keep the area of operation clear of all persons, especially small children and pets. 4, Remove from area of operation all foreign objects such as sticks, bottles, rocks etc., that may get into snowblower and cause damage either to snowblower or when thrown from blower striking other objects. 5. Use only attachments and accessories designed for your machine. See your dealer for a complete list of approved attachments and accessories. 6. Before leaving the operator's poston, disengage power to blower and remove ignition key. Be sure to exercise the mandatory shut-down procedure. (See mandatory shut-down procedure page 3) 7. Never attempt to make any adjustments while engine is running or key is turned to the "on" position on the tractor. Before leaving the operator's position, disengage power to blower and remove ignition key. Be sure to exercise the mandatory shut-down procedure. (See mandatory shut-down procedure page 3). 8. Thoroughly inspect the area where the snowblower is to be used, and remove any wires or foreign ‘objects that might become tangled in the auger or thrown into the impeller. 9. Disengage PTO, clutch, or hydraulic valve, and shift into neutral or park before starting engine. OPERATION SAFETY A A A 1. Stay alert for hidden hazards or trafic. Do not carry passengers. CAUTION: Keep children and spectators off and away from the machine while it is operating. 2. Alter striking a foreign object, stop the engine, disengage power take-off or hydraulic valve and re- move ignition key. Thoroughly inspect snowblower for any damage before restarting and operating the snowblower. Be sure to exercise the mandatory shut-down procedure. (See mandatory shut-down procedure page 3). '3. Never operate the snowblower without guards, shields, plates, or other safety precaution devices in place. Shields are for your protection; please keep all shields in place. DANGER: Hydraulic system can contain stored energy or pressure when and if blower becomes. plugged. This energy can be released when unplugging machine, WARNING: Keep all quards, shields, and decals in place. 4. Do not direct casting chute so discharge from chute will hit people, houses, vehicles, or other objects that could be damaged, 5. Stop the engine, disengage power take-off and remove ignition key whenever you leave the operator's position and before making repairs, adjustments, or inspections, be sure to exercise the mandatory ‘shut-down procedure. (See mandatory shut-down procedure page 3). CAUTION: Before proceeding to perform any adjustments on the snowblower, exercise the mandatory shut-down procedure, > 6. Stop engine, disengage power take-off and remove ignition key before attempting tp unplug blower or casting chute. Be sure to exercise the mandatory shut-down procedure. (See mandatory shut- down procedure page 3) DANGER: Keep hands out! Do not step on or climb over the unit while machine is in operation! DANGER: Rotating auger can catch hands or feet! Engage the PTO or hydraulic valve slowly to prevent unnecessary shearing of pins or damage to blower. 8. Disengage power to snowblower when transporting or not in use. Be sure to exercise the mandatory shut-down procedure. (See mandatory shut-down procedure page 3.) 9. Never operate the snowblower without good light or visibility DANGER: Hydraulic lines or other components can be hot after operation! Do not touch! SAFETY and OPERATIONAL DECALS ‘The following decals are placed in strategic positions on the unit to provide the operator with a continual reminder of safe operating practices. If they become damaged or lost, replace them immediately. They may be obtained from your dealer. NEW DECAL APPLICATION Surfaces must be free from din, dust, grease and other foreign material before applying the new decal. To apply, remove the smaller portion of the decal backing paper, and apply this portion of exposed adhesive backing to the clean surtace while maintaining proper position and alignment. Peel the other portion of the backing paper off slowly while applying hand pressure to smooth-out decal surface. A CAUTION: Always observe safety rules shown on decals. If decals become damaged, or if the unit is repainted, replace the decals. DECAL #7 SET-UP INSTRUCTIONS FOR 716C - 72" SNOWBLOWER CAT. # 715444001 716C - 84" SNOWBLOWER CAT. # 716347001 DRIVE ASSEMBLY 1 2. Remove PTO/gearbox shield for access to gearbox for assembly to the PTO. Remove grease and paint from gearbox input shatt. Install 9/8" x 2" square key in shatt, coat shaft with light coat of grease. Slide PTO assembly on shaft, align bolt holes through yoke and shaft, install 3/8” x 3-1/2" boltand locknut. Torque to 35 ft. Install 3/8" x 1” set screw in PTO yoke and tighten, Install PTO/gearbox shield to gearbox using hardware removed in step 1. SPOUT INSTALLATION 1 Install four of the eight 1/2" step washers, 1/2" x 1/2" x 9/8" shoulder bolts in bottom of the spout ring gear. DO NOT TIGHTEN. Apply grease to the spout ring on the snowblower. Slide the spout onto the ring making sure that the step washers catch the ring on the snowblower. Install the remaining four step washers and shoulder bolts. Tighten all eight bolts and install 3/8” lock nuts on them. Rotate spout by hand to check for binding. iit binds, re-adjust the bolts. Spout should rotate freely. HYDRAULIC SPOUT ROTATOR INSTALLATION 1. Place spacer washer on hydraulic motor making sure it is properly seated around alignment ing on motor. ‘Attach hydraulic motor to mount on snowblower with output shaft facing up and ports facing ight side of ‘blower, using four hex-head 3/8" x 1-1/4" gr. § bolts, flat washers and lock washers. Slide drive sprocket and 1/4" x 1" key stock on output shaft of hydraulic motor. Align it to mesh with ring gear on spout, ‘Adjust motor to achieve maximum possible tooth contact without binding. Tighten bolts securely. Adjust drive sprocket so that spout ring gears centered between guides on drive sprocket. Tighten set ‘screws securely. Install 90° street elbows into motor ports, pointing 45* down and toward the tractor, use thread sealant on all threads and tighten securely. Install ortice fittings into street elbows. Install hydraulic hoses to orifice fitings ‘and quick couplers (supplied by the dealer) on the hose ends. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Before operating this machine become familiar wth and study all the hazard warnings and safety precautions listed in this book. A A A be CAUTION: Become familiar and know how to use all the safety devices and controls on the snowblower before attempting to operate the unit. Know how to stop the unit before starting it. WARNING: Read and observe all warnings on machine before attempting to operate the snowblower. Do ‘ot attempt to operate this machine unless all factory installed safety devices are in place. CAUTION: Before proceeding to perform any adjustments on the snowblower, exercise the mandatory shut-down procedure, (see page 3) 1. The chain and sprockets should be inspected for alignment and tension on the initial use, and a periodic check should be made to keep them in alignment. 2. Adjust the auger drive chain idler and re-tighten after one (1) hour of use. Chain should have about ‘one inch of deflection. WARNING: Keep all guards, shields, and decals in place. 3. The gearbox oil level should be checked before inital start-up and every 25 hrs. of operation. ‘Add AGMA SEP or API GL-5 SAE90 as needed to maintain oil level 2-3/4" from top of gearcase. Warranty will not be allowed when it is evident that gears were run dry. 4. Check the tension of the shear bolts in the following locations often, to be sure protection devices are kept in proper and safe working condition. ‘Auger/Chain Drive protection - refer to no. 6, page 11 - Torque to 32 ttibs. Auger Chain / Gearbox protection - refer to no. 26, page 11 - Torque to 20 ft/Ibs. Gearbox/Driveline protection - refer to no. 6, page 14 - Torque to 200 inilbs. 5. Keep telescoping PTO shatt well greased or oiled, (oil should be used in severe cold conditions) 6. ‘The PTO assembly should have the square key locked down on the gearbox shaft with set-screw and addtional safety bolt going through the gearbox shat. 7. Do not operate snowblower with too long a PTO orwith a dented PTO shield. This will not allow the shatt to telescope freely. Operating under these conditions, can cause damage to gearbox, tractor or knuckles. WARNING: Be sure PTO shield turns freely DANGER: Rotating drive line. Personal injury or death can resutt from entanglement. 8. Operator should not raise and lower blower under heavy loads to gain traction if wheels on tractor are spinning. This can cause damage to PTO shatt or tractor out-put shaft 9. Adjust the blower skid shoes so the cutting blade is about 1/2" from the ground for best results. 10. Do not use snowblower as a bulldozer to push snow. Let the blower work its way through the snow. 11. Wet sticky snow requires more power to blow. The blower works better in this type of snow if itis kept working at its full capacity 42. Run third arm so biower will sit level resting on skid shoes, and the knuckles will run as straight as possible. 19. Best operating speeds of fan depend on snow conditions and tractor horsepower. 8 MAINTENANCE and LUBRICATION A CAUTION: Before proceeding to perform any service routines on the snowblower, exercise the mandatory shut-down procedure. After service has been performed, be sure to restore all guards, shields, and covers to their original position. CAUTION: Before working under any hydraulically controlled implement, be certain it is securely blocked! WARNING: Never attempt to lubricate the blower with the engine running. Always be sure to exercise the ‘mandatory shut-down procedure, (see mandatory shut-down procedure, page 3) WARNING: When high pressure fluid escapes it can be almost invisible, yet have enough pressure to penetrate the skin and enter the blood steam. Never attempt to use hands to search for a suspected oil leak. If injured by escaping fluid consult a doctor at once! Serious reaction or infection can occur if proper medical treatment is not obtained immediately. CAUTION: Always wear safety goggles or glasses when working on hydraulic system to avoid eye injury. LUBRICATION A 4. Atthe beginning of each season, the gearbox should be drained and refilled o a level 2/4" from the top of gearcase with 28 oz. of AGMA SEP or API GL-5 SAE90 gear ol, 2. It snowblower gearcase is overtiled, ol will be forced out breather vent, and possibly damage seals. 3. Check oil levels before using snowblower and every 25 hours of operation thereafter. 4. Add AGMA SEP or API GL-S SAE90 as necessary to maintain cil evel 2-3/4" from top of gearcase. 5. Chain should be kept well lubricated at all times. 6. Keep telescoping PTO shaft well greased or oiled, (oil should be used in severe cold conditions). 7. Spout bands, gears and worm gears should be greased at all times. 8. Grease all bearings every 25 hours. WARNING: Keep all quards, shields, and decals in place. STORAGE 1. With engine stopped, ignition key removed, and PTO disengaged, clean snow from blower especially in areas of drive chain, fan, spout, and auger where it could become frozen and cause damage when unit is used next time, Be sure to exercise the mandatory shut-down procedure, (see mandatory shut-down procedure page 3) 2. Oilall chain and lubricate grease fitings at time blower is cleaned of snow. Paint all worn parts to prevent rusting, 4, Always reler to operator's manual for important details if snowblower is to be stored for an extended period.
