Tongue carcinoma accounts for 36.5% of all the malignancies seen in the oral cavity. The choice of treatment is a surgical
resection of the tumor which is often complicated by the intraoperative bleeding due to the rich blood supply of the tongue. The
ultrasonically activated scalpel , commercially known as the focus harmonic performs tissue dissection and coagulation
simultaneously by an ultra high frequency movement of blade which enables a good overall view and control of surgical situs in
a relatively bloodless field.
We, in our unit have performed procedures like hemiglossectomy and total glossectomy in 20 consecutive patients using the
FOCUS HARMONIC and would like to share our initial experience
