Standards Committes), togather with representatives of the dealers in fasteners, have deaidod to introduce the new widths aoroes fata inal relevant product standards. Since experiene has shown, that the introduction ofthe new widths across flats has not been advanced by thelr inclusion in DIN Standards merely as preferred alternatives to the previous widths across ‘ats, the folowing decisions have been reached toaccelerate the changeover procedure. ‘Supplementary to current DIN Standards specifying the Previous wldths across flats, DIN ISO Standards dealing with the same products wil, wherever iSO Standards are Intemational Patent Classification F168 36/00 DIN 939 Page 9 avallabia, ba published whioh, besides Introducing a num= ber of other minor amendments wil pecify thenew widths ‘2cr0ss fats conforming to ISO 272. Inboth DIN and DINISO Standards attention wil be drawn to the fact that the relevant ISO Standards are to be preferred and that the DIN Standard isto be replaced after a transition poriod of, 5 yeur If no relevant ISO Standard Is avallable, the DIN Standard will contain a foreword stating that the previous width across fats specifications are to be withdrawn after atran= sition period of § yeurs end replaced by those specified in 180 272, This sate a time limit for both manufacturer and user of hexagon products by which tho changeover to the now ‘widths acrovs flats must be effected, The responsible com mittes is of the opinion, that i wil stil be possible after thie perlod to obtain fasteners complying with the superseded ‘specifications as spare parts. In some cases, he replacement ofthe previous DIN Stand- ards by the relevent ISO Standards will have further oon- ‘sequences, besides the changeover to the new widths across flat, attention belng dravn to thls circumstance in the national foreword of the relevant DIN ISO Standards. ‘These consequences result from the fatt that the ISO Standards have not yet reached the same level of com- pleteness as the DIN Standards, Thus a number of nominal ‘i208, as Wellas several product apecttications for fine pitch threads are not found in the ISO product standards. Furth ‘moro, [80 Standards on technical delivery conditions aro til in the initial stages, go that specific requirements are still subject to separate agreement when ordering prod- Uucts In accordance with ISO Standards, as they are not In- cluded in the designation for order purposes. Besides these consequences, which ere of importance when epplying the new ISO Standards, the amendment Of the widths across flats also have a number of conse- ‘quences as ragards tha use of tha naw products which tha designer must take into consideration, Besides the amend ced assembly sizes, this applies above all to the different surface pressure for the bearing area of the nut or the heads of the bolts. These difficulties are discussed in Recommendation VDA 262*) publishedby the Verband der Automobilindustrle@,V.
