Three Ways of Explaining a Concept

1. Definition is the method of


identifying a term and making it
clearer.

Three Types of Definition :


Informal Definition - which is done by
simply providing a brief explanation of a
term or concept.

For example, Vitamin E is naturally found


in vegetable oil, fish and nuts.

Formal Definition- It is done by


incorporating the term to be defined
(species), the category of the term (genus)
and the quality that makes it unique from
other items in the category

For example, Vitamin E is a fat-soluble


vitamin that acts as an antioxidant.

Extended Definition- which is a detailed


way of explaining a concept and may be a
paragraph long.
