In a developing country like India, agriculture contributes 13.5% to the GDP of the economy.

It
provides 55% employment in the country out of which 80% of all economically active women in India
are employed in the agriculture sector; they comprise 33% of the agriculture labour force and 48% of
the self-employed farmers.
