Lesson Plan

I. Context/Lesson Session:
A. Adult Individual
B. 1 hour session
C. Lesson Type: First Meeting(1 on 1 Voice lessons)
II. Concept: Introduction to Singing, Proper posture and Breathing methods
III. Terminal Program Objective: At the end of the program, the students will be able to
interpret and sing pieces with a certain mastery and sensitivity to the piece.

Instructional Objective: At the end of the lesson, the students are able to:

A. Remember the concept and importance of correct breathing techniques to be used in


singing while maintaining good posture
B. Identifies when and where to breathe during singing.
C. Uses the taught breathing techniques in a basic level.
IV. Materials/Equipment Needed:
 A diagram of the upper body, showing the lungs, resonators and articulators.
 A diagram of the whole body with both lousy and proper postures to differentiate
 Piano/Keyboard
 Student’s First Song
 Water
V. Learning Procedure/Presentation
A. Motivation:
 Formal Introductions
 Casual conversations about the introduction of singing.
B. Review
 Ask the student to sing a song of their choice.
C. Presentation of New Concept
 Point out the student’s mistakes with breathing
 Reassure the student positively
 Start discussing the importance of posture in singing
 Correct the student’s posture
 Begin discussion on breathing techniques
 How to breathe properly
 When to breathe during singing
 When NOT to breathe during singing
 Introduce Breathing exercises
 Start Vocalizations
 Apply breathing techniques during vocalizes
 Maintain good posture
 Begin the student’s first piece
 Apply breathing techniques and execute in the appropriate time.
 Still maintain proper posture
D. Summary/Review
 Ask the student what they remember regarding breathing techniques.
 Make the student sing first piece again and try to remember when and how to
breathe during the song whilst not forgetting posture.
 Tell the student where to work on more for individual/non-class practice and
rehearsals.
