Most verbs add “ing”


Most verbs ending in
No Change “y” add ING eat - eating
speak - speaking
buy + ing = buying cook - cooking
enjoy + ing = enjoying start - starting
play + ing = playing do - doing
say + ing = saying stay - staying
try + ing = trying fix - fixing
talk + ing = talking
sing + ing = singing

Verbs ending in “e” Verbs ending with -ie


drop the final “e”

Change Change the -ie to -y


and add -ING
hope - hoping
ride - riding die - dying
make - making tie - tying
write – writing lie - lying
believe- believing
drive- driving
dance-dancing

Verbs ending with one


vowel and one
consonant
If the 2nd syllable is

consonant and add
