2A+6 2.0 litre SOHC engine in-car repair procedures 7.12 Ensure the timing belt tensioner arm (I) is correctly positioned in relation to the ‘backplate cutout/marking (2) as described in text A. Correct postion for new belt - engines with an unmarked tensioner 1 Correct position far new belt - engines vith a marked tensioner rotation, to bring the sprocket timing marks back into alignment. Check thatthe tensioner pointer is sill correctly postioned in relation to fhe backplate cutout/marking (as applicable) 14 If the tensioner pointer is not correctly positioned in relation to the backplate, repeat ne procedure In paragraph 12 new belt) ar 13 (crigial bet) (as applicabie). 415 Once the Tensioner arm and backplate Femain correctly aligned, ref the iming belt Cover and crankshaft pulley as described in Sections 5 and 6 8.2 Using a home-made sprocket holding too! to retain the camshaft sprocket whilst the bolt is slackened © Correct positon for used belt - engines wth an unmarked tensioner Correct postin for used bolt - engines ‘th 2 marked tensioner Biting Decleor R and sprockets Temovel and refitting g Camshaft sprocket Removal 1 Remove the timing belt as described in Section 7. 2 The camshaft must be prevented from juming asthe sprocket bok is unscrewed, and 85 Refit the camshaft sprocket making sure the locating pin (1) engages withthe sprocket hole (2) 3510 Vauxhall/Opel Omega this can be achieved in one of two ways as Fallows 4) Make up a sprocket-holaing too! using tivo lengths of steel stip (one tng, the ther shor), and three nuts and Bolts ane rut and bolt forms the pivot ofa forked too), with the remaining two nuts and bolts atthe tips ofthe “forks” to engage ith the sprocket spokes as shown (see istration) ) Remove the camshaft cover as described Jn Section 4 ani hold the camshart with ‘an open-ended spanner on the fas provided, 48 Unscrew the retaining bolt and washer ant remove the sprocket from the end of the camshan Refitting 4 Prior to refiting check the oil seal for signs fof damage or leakage f necessary, renewing itas desenbed in Section 9 5 Refit the sprocket to the end of the Camshaft, aligning its cutout with the camshaft locating pln, then refi the retalning bolt and washer (see ilustration) 6 Tighlen the sprocket retaining boll to the Specified torque whilst prevent rotation using ne methad employed oh removal. 7 Refi the timing bel as described In Section 7 then (whare necessary) refit the carnshatt ‘cover as described in Section 4 Crankshaft sprocket Note: A new crankshart sprocket cetaining ‘bolt wil be required on reiting Removal 8 Remove the timing belt as described in Section 7. 9 The crankshal! must be prevented from turing as the sprocket bolt Is unscrewed (the bolt Is very tight), and this can be achieved in anyone of te fllowing ways, a) Use the holding tol described in paragraph 2 securing the too! tothe Ssprockel with two bolts screwed into ‘ppesite pulley retaining bolt holes. 1) On manual transmission models have an ‘assistant select op gear and apply the brakes tml, 6) If he engine fs removed tram the vehicle forthe transmission unit has been ‘removed the ryaheelidriveplate can be locked as described in Section 15. 10 Unscrew the retaining bolt and washer {and remove the crankshatt sprocket from the ‘ond ofthe crankshaft. Discard the bok: a new fone must be used on refitting. If necessary, remove the sprocket Woodruff key from the Crankshaft end and side aff the spacer. Refitting 11 Slide the spacer (where removed) onto the crankshatt then ref the Woodruff key 10 the trankshatt sot 12 Align the sprocket with the key and slide it Into postion, ensuring the sprocket flange Is facing outwards. Fit the washer and new retaining bok
